As a certified nursing assistant for Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Maggie saw first-hand the life-changing impact physical therapy can have in a patient’s life.

“Physical therapy can be transformative for patients,” says Maggie. “It’s so rewarding to help them regain independence, improve their quality of life, and in many cases, return to independence.”

Inspired by the experience, Maggie enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Clarkson College.

“As a PTA, I’ll have the opportunity to work closely with patients while maintaining autonomy in clinical decision making,” she says.

Maggie says she values the close-knit learning environment Clarkson College offers.

“In my small cohort, we’ve developed strong relationships and a supportive dynamic. I’ve also appreciated how invested the instructors are, not only in our academic success, but in our well-being as individuals.”

As an employee of one of Clarkson College’s community partners, Vetter Senior Living, Buhr received a scholarship.

Way to go, Maggie!

When Danna Swartz visited Ethiopia seven years ago, she noticed she didn’t see many women.

The Clarkson College assistant professor soon learned the reason why: when women in rural parts of South Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia were menstruating, they were homebound. It forced many girls to drop out of school.

She started a program to teach women how to sew reusable menstrual pads, and to educate women and men about a woman’s anatomy and reproduction.

For her trip this past August, she brought something special. A custom 3D image of a woman’s anatomy, created by the 3D Printing and Training Center Team at Clarkson College.

“Having the model allowed my message to come across more clearly, and it generated a new level of curiosity among the students,” Ms. Swartz says.

She left the 3D model in Ethiopia, to help the local volunteers educate more young people with this life-changing information.

Thank you Ms. Swartz and the 3D Printing Team for making a difference in thousands of lives!

They started out as colleagues and ended up as best friends.
*
Their journey began when Nicole Shives, EdD, proposed a simple idea to Rachel Holm, EdD: “Let’s get our doctorate together.”
*
Despite busy professional lives, with the demands of raising young children, the pair enrolled in the Doctor of Education in Healthcare Education and Leadership in the fall of 2019 and supported one another every step of the way.
*
“Having Rachel with me was invaluable,” says Dr. Shives, who is a professor at Clarkson College. “The bond we developed through the challenges, accomplishments, and experiences of the program is, honestly, one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.”
*
Their hard work culminated with feelings of pride and gratitude, as they crossed the stage to receive their degree in August 2024. Read more of their story here: https://news.clarksoncollege.edu/2026/10/getyoureddwithyourbestie

Check out our PTA students flexing their technology skills for a great cause! 💪

Nearly 30 PTA students worked together to create adaptive toys for children with fine motor impairments, helping make play more accessible.

The toys will be donated to local pediatric clinics, where they can be distributed to families who will benefit from them most.

A big thank you to our partners Tikkum Olam Makers for making the workshop happen!

Another example of our students using their skills, creativity, and compassion to make a meaningful impact in our community. 💕

Congratulations to our 2026 Mr. Clarkson & Ms. Clarkson! ✨
👑
During Spirit Week festivities, the College community crowned Terran "T" Dixon and Audrey Leighow as this year's honorees. They are pictured here with Andreia Nebel, EdD, president and CEO of Clarkson College.
👑
Mr. Clarkson and Ms. Clarkson nominees are chosen by and voted on by the College community. Those selected are students who go above and beyond to make Clarkson College a great place to be. The tradition of Ms. Clarkson started in 1943, and in 1978, the first male student was recognized as Mr. Clarkson. All nominated students exceptionally demonstrate the five Clarkson College values of Caring, Excellence, Commitment, Integrity, and Learning. We are honored to have all of them as students.
👑
In addition to the winners, nominees for Ms. Clarkson included Anna Kastens and Jessica Wickstrom, and nominees for Mr. Clarkson were Skylar Schulz and Kevin Sohl.
