Sports For Kids Foundation - Omaha

Rashid is a high school student from Omaha living with cerebral palsy. Insurance covered the cost for his first wheelchair. However, when Rashid outgrew it, the insurance company denied covering the expenses for a second.
Rashid’s family was at a loss with what steps to take next. Not only were the expenses a massive burden, but their son’s wellbeing was their top priority. Thankfully, they turned to the Sports For Kids Foundation, which was able to help provide Rashid the perfect motorized wheelchair, so he could continue going to classes and spending time with his friends.
When families have nowhere left to turn when advocating for their kids, the Sports for Kids Foundation strives to be the solution. Stories like Rashid’s are only possible because of your support.
The next opportunity to lend a hand is a fun one: our annual golf scramble on Monday, Sept. 14! We need two more foursomes to sign up to hit our goal and help more kids, like Rashid.

THIS IS A GOOD TIME FOR ME TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED GROW THE SPORTS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION FROM DAY 1, STARTING WITH THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED CREATE THE ORGANIZATION BACK IN 1990 - TERRY HARWOOD, MIKE BULL, JOAN BULL, ANGIE ROZA, AND TONY VENDELY, TO EARL STANDER WHO HAS UNSELFISHLY SHARED HIS AUCTIONEERING SKILLS AND TALENTS TO HELP RAISE EVERY NICKEL OVER THE YEARS, AND TO THE OTHERS WHO HAVE SERVED AS OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBERS DURING THAT TIME.

I WANT TO THANK ALL OF THE SPONSORS WHO HAVE HELPED MAKE OUR FUNDRAISING EVENTS SUCCESSFUL.

I ALSO WANT TO THANK MS. MARCIA WAITT AND THE KIND WORLD FOUNDATION FOR THE 2025 GRANT TO THE GAME CHANGER FUND THAT HELPS SPORTS FOR KIDS SECURE MANY OF THE AMAZING AUCTION ITEMS THAT GENERATE SPIRITED BIDDING EVERY YEAR.

FIVE YEARS AGO A DECISION WAS MADE TO KEEP THE SPORTS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION MOVING FORWARD, AND AN EFFECTIVE SUCCESSION PLAN WAS PUT IN PLACE THAT HAS NOW SEEN ANDY TINGWALD TAKE THE REINS OF COORDINATING THE AUCTION AND THE GOLF SCRAMBLE. IN ADDITION, THREE NEW PEOPLE HAVE ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY OF SERVING ON THE SPORTS FOR KIDS BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THEY ARE BRINGING NEW IDEAS AND NEW ENERGY THAT WILL FIGURE PROMINENTLY IN THE CONTINUED GROWTH AND SUCCESS OF THE SPORTS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION, AND I ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUPPORT THEM AND THE FOUNDATION. I WILL ALSO REMIND YOU THAT ANDY AND THE BOARD CAN ALWAYS USE GOOD VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP MAKE GREAT EVENTS EVEN GREATER.

THEREFORE, I AM COMFORTABLE IN SHARING WITH YOU THAT I HAVE STEPPED DOWN FROM MY ROLES WITH THE SPORTS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION. THE ORGANIZATION IS IN GOOD HANDS WITH A GOOD BLEND OF OLD AND NEW, AND IT IS TIME FOR ME TO FOCUS ON OTHER MATTERS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO ME, INCLUDING TAKING TIME TO ENJOY LIFE WITH MY FAMILY.

THE ROAD HAS BEEN LONG AND SOMETIMES DIFFICULT, BUT THE CAUSE HAS BEEN THE DRIVING FORCE. THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO TAKE OUT MANY OF THE BUMPS AND UNEXPECTED TURNS THAT HAVE ARISEN FROM TIME TO TIME OVER THE PAST 36+ YEARS. YOU HAVE ALL PLAYED A ROLE IN BUILDING A LEGACY THAT CONTINUES TO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN. YOU ARE THE SPORTS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION, AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH YOU.
