While shadowing at a pediatric dental office, Julia Reimer realized she had found her calling.

"I could truly picture myself in dentistry," she said.

After earning her DDS from the UNMC College of Dentistry, Julia is now pursuing an orthodontic residency and helping patients build confidence through their smiles. Opportunities supported by the College of Dentistry Innovation Fund helped provide the foundation she needed for academic and clinical success.

What began as one student’s vision has grown into a lasting legacy of service.

Nearly 30 years ago, Sharon Stoolman, MD helped launch UNMC’s student run SHARING Clinic.

Today, SHARING, RESPECT, VISION and GOODLIFE clinics provide free and low-cost care to Omaha area patients while helping students apply their skills in real world settings. Thousands of future health professionals have learned the value of community service through these clinics.

A major step forward for cancer treatment has arrived in Nebraska.

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center recently welcomed a state-of-the-art proton therapy system, the first of its kind in the state. This advanced technology will deliver highly targeted radiation therapy designed to treat tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

The milestone reflects years of planning and investment to expand care options for patients across the region.
