Reports that young children in Minnesota were taken into immigration custody are heartbreaking and underscore the urgent need for policies that protect family unity and children’s wellbeing. As pediatricians, we know children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and loved. Actions that expose kids to trauma undermine their healthy development. Every child deserves love, security, and the chance to grow up without fear. Vitamin D is crucial for supporting children’s bone health and immune systems—especially during the cold winter months! The AAP recommends that all children begin receiving vitamin D supplements shortly after birth. Babies younger than 12 months of age should receive 400 IU of vitamin D each day, and toddlers and older children should receive 600 IU. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4inQanF

Measles is highly contagious, and the best method of prevention is vaccination. Live particles of the measles virus can live in the air long after an infected person leaves the room, meaning anyone in crowded spaces can come in contact with the virus.

Ask your pediatrician if you have any questions about the MMR vaccine or measles.
