In 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news that they were free.
Imagine that moment.
Imagine waking up to discover that a truth about your own life had existed for years but had not yet reached you. Imagine the mixture of joy, disbelief, relief, grief, and hope all arriving at once.
Juneteenth is more than a date in history.
It is a reminder that freedom is not just declared. It must be delivered. Justice is not just written—it must be lived. Opportunity is not just promised. It must be accessible.
The story of Juneteenth challenges us to ask important questions:
Who is still waiting to be seen?
Who is still waiting to be heard?
Who is still waiting for the opportunity to reach them?
