The Kicks for a Cure board had a wonderful luncheon at Creighton University, where we had the chance to learn firsthand how our 2024-2025 donations are fueling meaningful advancements in cancer research. These annual meetings are always such an important reminder of why we do what we do—and the real impact our community makes each year.

We were honored to hear from Laura Hansen, PhD — Director of the Lynch Cancer Research Center and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Science, School of Medicine.

We also heard from the lead investigators for the two funded research projects:
• Brian North, PhD – Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Medicine
• Waddah Al-Refaie, MD – Chair, Department of Surgery, School of Medicine

Their passion and dedication continue to inspire us as we head into another year of raising funds, awareness, and hope.

We had such a great time cheering on the Bluejays and the Mavericks ⚽️ for our first annual Kicks for a Cure Fall Tailgate! We want to thank everyone who supported this event as we hope to continue to grow and make an even larger impact to local cancer research every year!

We’re a little over a month out from our first annual Kicks for a Cure Fall Tailgate! Bring the whole family to watch Creighton vs UNO women and men’s soccer teams!

The tailgate will run from 4:30pm until the conclusion of halftime of the men’s game!

Once your generous donations are distributed to the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and Creighton University’s Lynch Cancer Research Center, how do they help fund cancer research?

For both cancer centers, a majority of the donations are used to grant pilot research studies. Typically these smaller grants go toward innovative research studies to gather data in hopes of obtaining larger scale grants to further their study!

As we move toward our 20th annual event, let’s not forget the reason why the Kicks for a Cure mission began. We are so grateful to our founders, Dave Karnes and Amy & Steve Lindsay, for their dedication to help find a cure for cancer. Thank you to everyone who has continued to support this great cause, we can’t wait to see what this next year will bring!

Wow! What an amazing event. Thank you for all the amazing support! With the help of this year’s event, Kicks for a Cure has now been able to donate over $5 MILLION to local cancer research since 2004!

Meet our 2025 Liz Karnes Memorial Scholarship winners! Selected by their coach, it is awarded to a player from both UNO and Creighton’s women’s soccer teams. The player selected by each coach has exemplified not only a passion for athletics but also has high moral standard, impressive leadership skills, and the ability to work through adversity in all aspects of life.
