RTBS is excited to provide audio description for Evil Dead: The Musical at the Omaha Community Playhouse on Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 pm in the Howard Drew theater with a preshow starting at 7:15. Bloody, ridiculous, and wickedly fun. A scream-worthy cult classic! A weekend getaway turns into outrageous chaos when friends face the supernatural. Beneath the splatter lies a story of loyalty, survival, and standing together when everything falls apart. Evil Dead The Musical contains graphic theatrical violence, abundant fake blood and gore, horror imagery, strong profanity, sexual humor and innuendo, crude language, simulated violence involving chainsaws, fi****ms, and dismemberment, and frequent mature themes. Audience members seated in designated Splatter Zone seating may be sprayed with stage blood.

Together, they read local stories and headlines from the Ainsworth Star-Journal , The Atkinson Graphic , Valentine Midland News , County Chief , Callaway Courier , and The Ord Quiz / Quiz Graphic Arts, Inc. .

Great information about the upcoming election for our blind and low vision folks.

The process is pretty simple. A poll worker gives the voter an activation card with a headset. The poll worker puts the activation card into the machine, and from there, the voter gets audio instructions on which buttons to press in order to fill out the ballot. FULL STORY ⬇️

For today’s Community Conversation, we are joined by Jamie Richey, President of the Nebraska Federation of the Blind, to talk about Blind Equality and Achievement Month. Tune in to hear Jamie share what is happening here in Nebraska and across the country, and learn more about the importance of recognizing blindness, accessibility, advocacy, and achievement.

Jamie K. Richey is a Nebraska native who lives in Lincoln with her husband, Jeremy. Together, they have four children and two grandchildren and own and operate two small businesses.

Jamie serves as president of the National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska and is a member of the National Federation of the Blind’s national Board of Directors. A dedicated member of the organization for 26 years, Jamie is passionate about advancing its mission of achieving equality, opportunity, and independence for all blind people.

New Book Alert. Today's new book is Abandoned Prayers by author Gregg Olsen, read by volunteer John Nownes.

Story Summary: On Christmas Eve in 1985, a hunter found a young boy's body along an icy corn field in Nebraska. The residents of Chester, Nebraska buried him as "Little Boy Blue," unclaimed and unidentified-- until a phone call from Ohio two years later led authorities to Eli Stutzman, the boy's father.

Eli Stutzman, the son of an Amish bishop, was by all appearances a dedicated farmer and family man in the country's strictest religious sect. But behind his quiet façade was a man involved with po*******hy, sadomasochism, and drugs. After the suspicious death of his pregnant wife, Stutzman took his preschool-age son, Danny, and hit the road on a sexual odyssey ending with his conviction for murder. But the mystery of Eli Stutzman and the fate of his son didn't end on the barren Nebraska plains. It was just beginning. . .

We had a fantastic turnout to celebrate the people who help keep RTBS going strong! Our annual volunteer luncheon was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the many volunteers who help keep the written word alive and well for our RTBN listeners, make theater experiences more accessible, and bring stories to life through in-person community readings at memory care facilities. More than 50 familiar faces joined us for an afternoon filled with laughter, good food, and plenty of connecting.

We enjoyed an amazing lunch from Chef Natalina, with TDC Personal Chef Services LLC, delicious desserts from Pettit's Pastry, and some yummy cookies from our volunteer, Anne Wattles. Our volunteers truly are at the heart of what we do. We are so grateful for the time, talent, and heart they give to our listeners and our community. Thank you for helping us bring stories, information, and connection to life!
