Saw that the Loess Hills Scenic Byway made the 'Roads to Ride Bucket List' in Road Runner Magazine. A definite 'must' if you haven't had the opportunity to enjoy it yet.

As this summer's riding season begins to wind down, you might want to start thinking about some new destinations in 2019. Regardless of where you live, one or more of the US National Parks is probably near or along your tour destination.
As Ken Burns says in his documentary, "They are our National Treasure".
There are a total of 47 parks in the lower 48 states.
Here is a map of the park locations and several images from the 32 that I’ve ridden to since 2009.
Only 15 to go!!

Saw 4 to 5 ‘Flatlanders’ at the Lincoln Haymarket European Bike Night.
Still two left this year... September 5th and October 3rd.
Put it on your calendar for a great night out on your bike.

Several of us went to the Top of the Rockies rally in Paonia CO this past week. About 500 motorcyclists were there.
Here are several images taken there as well as on some of the great day rides we took.
TIP FROM THE TRIP: Hwy 141 between Telluride and Gateway is incredible!!

With the National BMW MOA Rally being held this year in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fairground from July 12 to 15th, the Flatlanders Club will have a designated campsite for our members to use during the Rally.

If you’ve never been to a National Rally….. it will never get any closer!!

For those of you who don't get our Club newsletter, we are having a Lunch Ride to the Lyceum Cafe in Brownville on July 7th, leaving Omaha BMW Motorcycles at 10:00am. If you are interested in joining the ride, please sign up on the sheet at the dealership, so we can arrange table reservations ahead of time. Below is the route map as well as several photos from previous rides to the Lyceum.

Two of us recently rode down into middle Missouri for 4 days of twisties and roller coaster hills to get our ‘winter dormant’ riding skills back into working order.
After the obligatory ‘Day to Get There from Here’, we rode Hwys 135, 42, 19 and 79 (see map below) for two days before heading back to Nebraska.
Definitely worth putting on your bucket list.

Several years ago, the Flatlanders Club sponsored a challenge to ride to all eight of Nebraska’s State Parks.
To do it all at once you will need more than a day….. but consider doing it in segments as a means of enjoying the highways along the west side of the Missouri River valley, as well as the infamous ‘Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway-Hwy 12’ along our northern border.

If you have a Saturday that is available for an all day ride, consider this option: a ride north along the Missouri River Valley with stops at the Desoto Bend Wildlife Refuge, the lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Siox City, IA and the Gavins Point Dam Visitor Center near Yankton.
Or you can ’pick & choose’ one or two of these stops to fit your schedule that day.

Here’s another great day ride…… A trip to the Homestead National Monument slightly northwest of Beatrice.
After the monument, continue west on Hwy 4 and then up to the small town of Strang for lunch at Bubba’s Anytime Cafe.
For your return trip, head south to Hebron and then back east on Hwy 136 for any enjoyable ride through the rolling valleys of southern Nebraska.
If you go on a Friday to Saturday, and time allows, stop at the Montz Motorcycle Museum in Tecumseh which is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
There are 70 historic motorcycles wonderfully displayed….. talk about bringing back memories for those of us who began riding in the 1960s.

If you’re looking for a rally in July, in addition to the National Rally in Des Moines, consider signing up for the Top of the Rockies Rally, in Paonia, CO from July 19 to 22.
The rally location makes an outstanding ‘home base’ for many great day rides in southwest Colorado.
In addition to ‘The Million Dollar Highway’ between Montrose and Durango, include Hwys 92 and 50 for a great scenic ride to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
And if you come in to Paonia from the south, you might also include a ride up to the top of Pikes Peak….. it’s paved and well worth the making!!
