Now through January 3, visit our Castle and Cathedral District partner Roberta and Bob Rogers Gallery on Vinton Street for "Eugene Kingman: In His World," the largest ever exhibit of regionalist artist Eugene Kingman's prints, plates, and drawings!
On Friday, we were thrilled to welcome Eugene Kingman's ancestors (his daughter Mixie Kingman Eddy and grandson Quin Eddy) to the opening reception where they shared a few personal stories and anecdotes about his life and process.
On Wednesday, November 19, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, join us for a special talk and discussion led by historians John Paul of Joslyn Castle and Legacy Preservation's John Dechant.
The Roberta and Bob Rogers Gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and many of the works on display are available for purchase.
Eugene Kingman was drawn to the visual arts early in his life which then formed the foundation for his professional life's work. He became well versed in the mediums of printmaking, painting and drawing with his artworks forming a constant theme for him. Throughout his career he was very active as an artist, an art teacher, a director of art museums and arts centers, and a muralist while creating a variety of murals and special projects for the National Parks and the New York Times. In 1946 Kingman was drawn to Omaha by Joslyn Art Museum to become its assistant director and then director, positions he held for over 23 years.
This show focuses on his fine art prints and drawings. Prints are primarily lithographs and etching, and his drawings are ink, graphite and black litho crayons.
