RISE Impact volunteered at Matt Talbot Kitchen on the 4th of July, and by all accounts it was a wonderful morning. Plenty of food served, plenty of good conversation, and a few of our volunteers enjoyed the food a little too much themselves.

The people we served were incredibly thankful. Giving back reaches the volunteers as much as the community.

Seeing our alumni show up and serve others is pretty special.

If this is your first time volunteering in prison you must apply for clearance by August 2nd.

This October, RISE participants at NSP will stand up and pitch the businesses they've spent months building. We're looking for volunteers to be in the room when they do.

Volunteering inside a facility takes some planning. Clearance has to be arranged ahead of time, so we need folks signed up by August 17. The event is October 16 at NSP. Details and the volunteer form are here: volunteer.bloomerang.co/volunteer/ #/join-party?k=u7kfgpnhx42kg8.

These participants have put months into their plans, and what they need now is an audience willing to hear them out.

RISE is hiring a Director of Finance as we strategically grow!

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this person will direct financial strategy and multi-year forecasting, run the annual budget and present it to our Board, close the books each month for the CEO and Program Directors, oversee bi-weekly payroll, manage grant budgets and funder drawdowns, and lead our annual audit and Form 990. As RISE grows, they'll hire and develop the finance staff underneath them.

We're looking for 7 to 10 years in financial management, ideally nonprofit. CPA or MBA strongly preferred.

RISE is a background-friendly employer.

We're recruiting volunteers for a Reentry Simulation at Nebraska State Penitentiary on November 5th.

The simulation gives participants an assumed identity and a set of tasks to complete across four 15-minute "weeks," a compressed month of reentry. Volunteers staff booths representing the community agencies and offices people navigate after release, from obtaining an ID to securing employment.

It's an effective way to understand the practical barriers system-impacted people face, and it depends on having enough volunteers to run the stations.

The commitment is about three hours. Sign-ups close September 6 so we can complete facility clearance in time.

We are so lucky and honored to have Dr. Tommy on our team at RISE! This is a great read about the work he’s also doing with Southeast Community College!

Tommy Moore came out of prison in 2009 chasing a bachelor’s degree without a car and 12 miles of road between him and Lake Sumter Community College. He pedaled. Every. Single. Day. Now he has a Ph.D. and teaches incarcerated students in the UPWARD program what got him there.

“My mission and my vision in life is giving hope to the hopeless by letting people know their past doesn’t have to define their future."

Applications are due this weekend.

Advocacy is a skill, and like any skill it can be learned. Emerging Advocates Training is a 10-week course from RISE's Policy + Advocacy team for community members who want to move from caring about an issue to acting on it.

You'll learn how advocacy works and how to make a case for the issues you care about. By the end, you'll have the confidence to speak up when it matters. You don't need any experience going in; the course is built for people who are just starting out.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings, 6–8pm, starting September 8, 2026. Applications close July 26.
