Ashley's House

Ashley's House Ashley’s House is a project the Omaha Fire & Rescue Department has undertaken to help teach children fire safety and prevention.

On February 9th, 2011, 17 year old Ashley Weir lost her life south of Norris City in a car accident coming home from NCOE School. Ashley was very active in the Omaha Fire and Rescue. She had always wanted to dress up as Sparky the Fire Dog and do public education for children. A used 2 story Surrey Smoke Trailer has been purchased and is ready to be renovated and painted. This trailer will be equi

pped with a smoke machine that can be activated to simulate smoke filling a building, a heated door to teach children to feel the door before opening it, a phone to simulate a call to the 911 dispatch and a flat screen TV with a DVD player for children to watch fire safety videos. This will not only benefit our area but ALL of Southern Illinois. Ashley was a great inspiration to many people and is why we have decided to name this project in honor of her, one of our fallen.
