Week #2 History Lesson:
Valor Awards
America has a time-honored tradition of recognizing the acts of valor performed by soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen through awards. These awards, include: the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, a Combat Action Ribbon, a Combat Infantryman's Badge, a Combat Action Badge, a Combat Medical Badge, a Combat Action Medal.

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is presented by the President of the United States, in the name of Congress, and is conferred only upon members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguish themselves through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.
There are three versions of the Medal of Honor; one for the Army, one for the Marine Corps, the Navy and the Coast Guard, and one for the Air Force.

History Lesson #1

History of the Blue Star
During World War I, an Ohio father had two sons
serving on the front lines in Europe. In their honor, he
hung the first recorded blue star banner, which meant an
immediate family member was serving in the military.
The blue star banner caught on and quickly became a
symbol of a child serving in the armed forces. He
designed the flag to be displayed in a home’s front
window, to show the number of family members
