Omaha Irish Cultural Center

Omaha Irish Cultural Center Our mission is to enhance awareness and knowledge of Irish culture in our area. The Omaha Irish Cultural Center was founded on 30 September 2013.

Our mission is to enhance awareness and knowledge of Irish culture in our area and the impact the Irish have had on the development and history of Omaha, eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. We accomplish our mission by hosting cultural events, offering educational classes and creating strategic partnerships with organizations and individuals in Ireland and the US. Locally we will offer a variety of

classes related to Irish culture. These include music, Irish language and Irish dance classes. One of the best ways to understand and learn about a culture is through art and language. It tells so many wonderful stories about struggles, joyful events, beliefs, and history. Cultural events are a way the general public can experience Irish culture in a fun and entertaining way. These include musical events, readings by Irish authors, festivals celebrating Irish history and culture, art openings, and theater. We hope to bring many such events to Omaha over the coming years. We look forward to working with many groups and individuals to create additional opportunities and experiences. We envision cohosting events with other groups, partnering with Irish organizations to bring Irish artists and musicians to Omaha, or working together with local organizations on cultural events. These types of partnerships will enable us and our partners to offer more to Omaha, eastern Nebraska, and western Iowa than is possible alone.

The three-day Omaha Irish Film Festival will wrap up on Sunday, March 8 with "A Quiet Love."

In this intimate film, three Deaf couples share their remarkable love stories through Irish Sign Language: a decade-long forbidden romance across a religious divide, an LGBTQI+ couple navigating parenthood with Deaf and hearing children, and a Deaf boxer and his hearing partner facing a life-altering choice. A cinematic celebration of resilience, connection, and enduring love; featuring an immersive soundscape, it is Ireland’s first feature film in Irish Sign Language. 'A Quiet Love' is produced by a Deaf and hearing team (Anne Heffernan & Seán Herlihy for Curious North Productions) and directed by award-winning filmmaker Garry Keane (In the Shadow of Beirut).

Produced by Curious North Productions in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, TG4 and Reach Deaf Services.
