Please welcome our newest intern, Katerina 😀

"Hi, I’m Katerina Robinette. I’m a single mom of two teenagers, a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and a recent graduate with my associate's degree in human services. For the last 9 years, I’ve worked at Michael Foods while balancing work, school and raising my kids, which has taught me a lot about patience, communication, adaptability and perseverance. My experiences both personally and professionally have shaped me into someone who genuinely cares about helping others feel supported and understood. I enjoy connecting with people, learning new things and continuing to grow in ways that allow me to make a positive impact. Outside of work and school, I love spending time with my kids and friends around the fire, building Lego sets and finding joy in the little things that help balance out the busy parts of life. I’m excited for the opportunity to continue learning and gaining experience through this internship. "

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP).

In the first few months of 2026 alone, ICT has published dozens of stories reflecting the stark, tragic, and ongoing reality of violence and abuse disproportionately impacting Native communities.

As a news organization telling stories for Indigenous communities, by Indigenous reporters, we take seriously our responsibility to shed light on this crisis, ensuring victims are treated with dignity, families are heard, policymakers see this epidemic, and the public is informed.

With estimates showing that 95 percent of MMIP cases receive little to no mainstream media coverage, our reporting brings visibility to overlooked stories and pushes for accountability and meaningful change.

This work is necessary, but it should not always be. We report on this crisis because it is happening, and we will continue because it must change. Our hope is for a future where Indigenous people are safe, justice is the norm, and these stories no longer need to be told.
