BSF - SOMOS ONE:
ONE HANDSHAKE. ONE INTRODUCTION. ONE RIPPLE OF IMPACT.
What happens when great organizations come together with one purpose—to create momentum and lasting impact for our youth?
You get a couple of days packed with learning, leadership, careers, culture, relationships, laughter, and a whole lot of inspiration!
A HUGE thank you to Cheer Athletics, WoodmenLife, Casa de la Cultura, United Hispanic Contractors, LEDC, and CareerPathways for helping create the way and the space for our Barrientos Scholarship Foundation students to participate in the 2026 Nebraska Governor’s Youth Summit.
We packed a LOT into two days!
DAY 1 — LET’S GO!
🕛 12:00 PM — Cheer Athletics
We met at Cheer Athletics and kicked off the journey. Thank you for helping make this experience possible!
🚌 1:00 PM — University of Nebraska at Kearney
Our students connected with UNK leaders in Aviation, Construction, and Student Affairs and got a glimpse of the opportunities waiting for them in higher education and their future careers.
Thank you, George Holman and the UNK team, for your incredible hospitality! UNK Lopers are amazing!
🍽️ 5:00 PM — Frye Restaurant
Good food, good conversations, and time for our students and team leaders to connect.
🏆 6:00 PM — LEDC Recognition
Noah Torres and I were honored to accept an award on behalf of LEDC at the request of Executive Director Itzel Lopez. We are grateful to Itzel and the entire LEDC team for their trust and for the work they continue to do for our community.
😂 8:30 PM — Jarrell Roach
Professional comedian and entertainer Jarrell Roach brought the fun! He created an incredible environment for our youth and youth leaders to laugh, connect, and enjoy the moment.
DAY 2 — GOVERNOR’S YOUTH SUMMIT
A full day of leadership, learning, career exploration, and connecting with other young leaders from across Nebraska.
💼 Career Engagement
A special thank you to Clarkson College, especially Jade Liles and Brittney R., for helping our students explore opportunities in healthcare careers and see what their future could look like.
🎓 AND THEN… $19,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED!
What a way to finish the experience—$19,000 in scholarships awarded to help invest in the future of Nebraska’s youth! Congratulations to Noah Torres, Lesley Sanchez, Stephanie Telles-Vega, and Danyell Smith-Taylor.
To Maggi, Bo, Madeline A., and all of the Governor’s Youth Summit organizers—thank you for creating such a meaningful experience for our young people.
We may have only had two days together, but we smashed a LOT into those two days!
More importantly, our students got to see something bigger:
People are willing to invest in them if they show up curious and interested!
And now it’s their turn to take that investment, believe in themselves, build relationships, serve others, and create opportunities for the next person.
That’s Somos One.
One Body. One Omaha. Nebraska Somos One.
Proud of our Barrientos Scholars and Leaders. Proud of our partners. Proud of this team.
Let’s keep building! 🙌🏽
