Today I just wanted to post a small excerpt from the history of Masonry in Nebraska. To grow in healthy and productive ways we must reflect on the past and the lessons presented there. This brief excerpt shows the strength the fraternity has had in our state and will hopefully continue to have as time passes... Many of these outreach activities and efforts to bring Masonry into the spotlight culminated in 2007 during the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the Grand Lodge. Numerous activities were held in all portions of the state
during the year, but the highlight was undoubtedly a ceremony conducted at the state Capitol in Lincoln. The rotunda
of the capitol contains busts of individual who, because of outstanding service to the state or nation, have been elected
to membership in the Nebraska Hall of Fame. There are currently 23 individuals who have been so honored: eight of
them, more than a third, are Masons.
Nearly 400 Masons, wearing aprons and jewels, marched in procession from a Masonic building in downtown
Lincoln to the state capitol. Once inside the capitol, a memorial service was held honoring those eight Masons.
Among the eight were: William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, famed scout, hunter, showman, Medal of Honor recipient and
member of Platte Valley Lodge # 32, North Platte; William Jennings Bryan, Congressman, three time candidate for
President of the United States, Secretary of State in Woodrow Wilson’s cabinet, and a member of Lincoln Lodge # 19;
and John J. Pershing, Commander in Chief of the American Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War I and
also a member of Lincoln Lodge # 19.
While Nebraska Masonry honors its past, we look forward to the future with unabated enthusiasm. We believe the
best years of Masonry are yet to come.

Why should you consider becoming a Freemason?

This is a question I asked myself many times over the years. The following 4 reasons were taken from freemasonscommunity.life. While I am new to the fraternity I find these reasons to hold true. I have experienced all 4 of these plus many more. My ask here is that if you know anyone who could benefit from joining our society, or has shown interest in the past. Please pass on these words and your own experiences. Help the Brotherhood and our lodge grow.

As always I can be reached through this page or at [email protected] with any questions or to provide a petition for new candidates.

Thank you,
Brother Christopher Ferrero
Junior Warden

1. You will learn about a Craft that is more than 300 years old.
There’s something alluring about joining an organization that is more than 300 years old and steeped in history and mystique. Freemasonry has evolved since its inception and survived the test of time, adapting to the present day while maintaining many of its traditions and rituals. Upon becoming a Mason, you will discover the secrets and rituals of your lodge that originate from the stonemason’s guilds of the Middle Ages, and appreciate how Masons have preserved these traditions ever since.

2. You will make new friends and expand your professional network.
Joining a Masonic lodge is an excellent way to increase your social circle and make new friends. You will regularly meet with your fellow Masons and discuss the running of the lodge, as well as upcoming events and fundraisers. Outside of the lodge, you will be able to attend social functions with your brothers and develop life-long relationships. You will also find Masons from all walks of life and will be able to expand your professional network by connecting with people within your lodge.

3. You will have the chance to raise money for worthy charitable causes.
One of the core values of Freemasonry is charity. As such, brothers in lodges all around the world dedicate their time to fundraising for worthy charitable causes in their communities and even further afield. Becoming a Mason is an excellent way of acting altruistically, as you will be involved with arranging and attending fundraisers, as well as learning about the vital work carried out by charitable organizations in different parts of the world.

4. You will learn more about yourself and your values.
Freemasonry encourages brothers to embark on a journey of discovery and self-improvement. By engaging with Masonic teachings and literature, you will learn more about yourself and be able to articulate your values. Through allegorical plays and other unique methods of instruction, Freemasonry encourages brothers to reflect on their lives and look for ways in which they can improve. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be more at peace with yourself and look for ways in which to better yourself.

Closing thoughts
As you can see, there are lots of reasons why becoming a Freemason is beneficial. You will learn a great deal, improve yourself as a person, contribute to the world around you, and make new friends and professional connections. On top of this, you will also leave your legacy by contributing to a centuries-old fraternity that has attracted membership from all over the world since its inception. So, if you’re interested in becoming a Mason, there’s no better time to act than now.
