The Ddamien Project Sanctuary for retired Military, Contract, and Law Enforcement working dogs. Help us continue this work.

We step in when others can’t, providing a safe home for dogs deemed too aggressive for adoption. 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Ddamien Project saves retired Military Working Dogs, contract working dogs, and law enforcement K9s that many consider “too aggressive” or too broken to save. Most would otherwise face euthanasia. These dogs spent their lives protecting us. Now, we give them the safety, medical

care, rehabilitation, and love they deserve in retirement. Since 2008, we’ve dedicated our lives to giving these heroes a second chance. We currently care for 20 retired working dogs and rely 100% on donations to continue saving lives. Help us save the heroes who once served us: https://bit.ly/SaveAHero

Good morning!

We are so happy to report that MWD Washout Ice was able to come home last night!

His bruising is continuing to improve, the skin is currently holding ok, and the swelling is not getting worse.

Ice will be getting hydrotherapy twice a day at home, antibiotics for the high white blood cells and for the angry hygroma. He has a recheck scheduled next week.

One of the random things that has happened more then once out of necessity, is introducing working dogs to other house dogs, and because we want Ice moving around a little more, we introduced him to our Indy and Helo, two of our other rescues.

So now, Ice is out and about in the house, getting along great with the cats, and has two new friends to help him heal!

We want to thank everyone for the well wishes and support for Ice, and a big thank you for the donations we have received!

Ice's vet visit was $1646.00. With $750 in donations coming in!

We wouldn't be able to do what we do and provide the care they have earned and deserved without your generosity and continued support!

If you would like to donate towards Ice's vet bill, please use the link below, or donate through PayPal- [email protected]

MWD Washout Ice update.

Ice remained hospitalized yesterday. He is doing better, but his platelet count is still declining slightly. His veterinary team has submitted samples for pathology testing to help determine the best course of treatment moving forward.

The good news is that Ice is eating well, seems comfortable, has his favorite toy by his side, and continues to win over everyone who meets him. Thank you all for your continued prayers, support, and positive thoughts as we wait for more answers.

This vet bill is going to cost us money that isn’t there.

If you can donate, please do.

I am at the vet with MWD Washout Ice, apparently bitten by a venomous snake late last night, and he is in the hospital now getting fluids and antivonum....

Not every hero gets a happy ending without help.
The dogs we care for are not adoptable, many face medical or behavioral challenges that make placement impossible. 🐕💔

They served with loyalty, courage, and devotion.
Now they depend on us for lifelong care, safety, and love.

Supporting the Ddamien Project means ensuring these heroes live out their lives with dignity and comfort.

🤍 Please consider supporting our mission through a donation or by sharing our story.

They gave us their best years, now it’s our turn to give them peace. 🐾

💙 At the Ddamien Project, we provide a second chance for retired K9 heroes who are too often overlooked because of age, medical issues, or behavioral challenges.

The reality? Vet bills, food costs, and ongoing care never stop. These heroes may be retired, but our work is full-time.

✨ With your help, we can keep our promise: no hero left behind. Donate today and stand with us in giving them the life they’ve earned.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that military dogs are trained to be aggressive, and that any issues are their fault.

That is not true.

Yes, some dogs develop behavior issues. That can come from human error, lack of patience, or poor handling. And some dogs simply are not suited for that level of work. Just like people, not every dog is built for that life. The difference is, dogs cannot walk away.

But understand this clearly.
❌Military dogs are not trained to be aggressive.

They are trained to be clear headed, controlled, and responsive. Bite work is precise and purposeful. It is not random aggression.

Another common comment is, “I had a German Shepherd growing up, I should qualify.” That is not the same.

When a kennel says “prior handler experience only,” it is not about being exclusive or unkind. It is about safety and liability. Handling a highly trained working dog requires knowledge, structure, and skill that goes far beyond owning a pet.
This is exactly why The Ddamien Project exists—to give retired working dogs, often labeled “too aggressive,” a second chance with experienced handlers who understand them.

We cannot keep doing this without your support.
If you could skip a cup of coffee today and donate five dollars, we would genuinely appreciate it. https://bit.ly/SaveAHero

This is a very hard post to write because those who know me know that I HATE begging for donations.

Yet, here we are. Whether it's a bag of dog food, a toy, or a monthly donation, we need all the support we can get.

This Memorial Day, we ask that everyone take just a few moments to pause and remember what this holiday is truly about.

So many family and friends have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country, while protecting thier fellow Shipmates, Soldiers, Airmen and Marines.

Coming from the K9 community, and having lost friends, this day is a chance to share their stories, and say their names.

As I was taught, now quite a few years ago, you die twice in this life- once when you stop breathing, and then the second time when someone says your name for the last time.

Have that drink, and enjoy the day, because that's what our family and friends would have been doing with us if they were still here.

Say thier names. Tell their stories. Never Forget.

The image below is of two very important people that had a direct impact on my life, and the dog in the middle is our now passed away MWD Sicario N165.

MA2 Michael Brodsky, who I served with at NSA Bahrain, then he followed me to what was then Commander Navy Region Southwest in San Diego for a short while before he deployed in 2012.

MWD Sicario was Sean's dog, who was with him in Afghanistan in 2012 when Sean was killed. Sicario survived, and after a lot of hard work by Sicario's kennel in Washington State, he went back to work until he came home to us.

Sicario was not safe enough to go to Sean's family, so we made sure that Sicario knew how much he was loved and how important he was to Sean's family every day.

Everyone of our dogs in our program represent a time and memories to so many handlers, and its never taken for granted that they were someone's best friend, even if it was just for a short while, because you never know what tomorrow may bring.

Every day, another hero retires.
And too often… there’s nowhere for them to go.

We take in the ones who can’t be adopted, the injured, the misunderstood, the forgotten.
But right now, we’re full. The calls keep coming.

The end of the year is here, and so are more dogs who need us now.
💛 Your donation could be the reason one more hero gets a home.

Will you help us keep saying “yes”?
