UNMC saw a 35% increase in research-specific funding over the last year. Industry-sponsored funding also jumped significantly, helping fuel new clinical trials, health security work, and other research that benefits Nebraska patients and communities.

Congratulations to the 10 undergraduate students from six Nebraska universities honored with the 2025-26 Richard Holland Future Scientist Awards!

Presented through the Nebraska INBRE program, these awards recognize outstanding student research completed during the summer INBRE program — spanning topics from cancer biology to gait stability to agricultural safety. This marks the 16th year Nebraska Cures has honored student researchers through these awards, named for the late Omaha philanthropist Richard Holland.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Hal Maurer, former UNMC Chancellor and a visionary leader who helped transform UNMC into a nationally recognized research institution.

Hal’s legacy is also deeply connected to Nebraska Cures. Along with his wife, Beverly, he helped lay the foundation for our organization and our work to build support for medical research in Nebraska.

We are grateful for his leadership and lasting impact.
