Before you set the table, make sure the facts are there first!

The celebration we know today is rooted in bloody violence and erasure against Indigenous and Black peoples.

We will never forget the Pequot massacre, which killed hundreds of families and children, and was later marked with a “day of thanksgiving.”

For enslaved Black people, this time of year meant intense labor as they were forced to prepare elaborate meals for enslavers, on an empty stomach, and later feed the “scapes.”

Thanksgiving carries a complex history for Indigenous people and Black Americans. For many, this day symbolizes loss and erasure. For others, it’s a time for family and gratitude.

Both realities can be true, but we hope you can commit to holding today with honesty, care, and love first. ✊🏾♥️
