Avenue Scholars

Avenue Scholars Leading Omaha’s young people from classrooms to careers. Governing Values

Integrity: We are consistent, dependable, and honest about who we are and what we do.

The Avenue Scholars program was an idea generated in 2008 by a group of Omaha philanthropists to help students of hope and need advance through a successful post-secondary experience to a meaningful career. Their idea has become a reality with the Avenue Scholars Foundation helping over 600 students along this path. Innovation: We implement dynamic programming that facilitates the growth and devel

opment of our students and the community. Collaboration: We create a culture of mutual trust, open dialogue, and positive results. Respect: We value others and promote their success. Hope: We focus on strengths and opportunities rather than obstacles.

If there’s one thing we like to see, it’s a Scholar with a big smile! 😊

Tori G. is currently on track to graduate from the automotive program at Metropolitan Community College. But first, her car needed a quick pit stop.

After Tori researched the most cost-effective parts and labor, Avenue Scholars was able to help foot the bill. Here’s a picture of her after her parts arrived!

Avenue Scholars is ready and able to help Scholars with automobile repair costs, because having reliable and safe transportation to school or work is essential as they prepare to launch their careers.

What is your favorite part of the school year?

For High School Career Coach Jenni Gutierrez, it’s getting to know her Scholars while challenging them to do hard things, like leading their own lessons. Small steps like these take them out of their comfort zone and help them grow their confidence and leadership skills.

Every High School Career Coach at Avenue Scholars leads their classroom a bit differently, with a variety activities that ultimately reach one end goal — preparing Scholars for their career and life after graduation.

How do you feel when you receive a thank you note?

At Avenue Scholars, we’re big believers in the power of handwritten thank yous. This , 📬📨we’re sharing a special thank you note from a Scholar to one of our local business partners.

A huge thank you to Jill and the Unique Auto, Inc team for helping out our Scholar, Kavayah L., whose vehicle is "running swell" again. Having reliable transportation means Kavayah can focus on pursuing a long-term career instead of worrying about how to get to work.

Taking the time to show gratitude through a handwritten note not only makes the recipient’s day, but also pays it forward and builds much-needed human connection.

“Stay in a growth mindset” is the best advice for new Scholars according to Career Coach Marcus Manley.

Being willing to grow and believe in a positive future for themselves are key fundamentals for Scholars to reach maximum potential in the Avenue Scholars program, he says.

To achieve their goals, Scholars often explore many different opportunities through less-traditional pathways. It just takes an open mind, research, and communicating with your Career Coach.

Happy workiversary, Canei!

In her six years with Avenue Scholars, Canei has guided many Scholars along their individualized career journeys. For the last two years, Canei has served as a High School Career Coach at Benson High

As a Benson alum herself, Canei couldn’t pass up the opportunity to serve Scholars at her alma mater. There, she sets the standard every day for her Scholars as a reliable mentor who is always in their corner, cheering them on to win not just in their career, but in life.

In her free time, Canei loves staying active in the community, attending local events, volunteering, and involving her Scholars whenever she can.

Thank you for always going above and beyond for our Scholars, Canei! 💙

We got a look at our summer Boot Camp through our Scholars’ eyes — and in some cases their thumbs. Take a peek! 👀📸

This summer, we gave six old school disposable cameras to our Boot Camp Scholars and asked them to capture their experience, who they met, where they went, and what they learned.

The results? Rich in personality, varied in quality, and – in true summer camp form – fun all around. What pictures would you have taken?

For Career Coach Antione Curtis, based at Westview High those open-door moments and conversations with Scholars are what he appreciates most about coming back to school.

Antione loves building strong relationships with new students and guiding his Scholars as they explore their career goals. With a supportive staff and a great culture at Westview, this year is going to be amazing for our Westview Scholars.
