Whether you’ve been following us for years or just found us, here’s a quick reminder of the work we do:

Since 2008, we’ve coached young people at a pivotal moment in life — the transition from high school to the beginning of a meaningful career. Through our program, Scholars receive support from a dedicated Career Coach every step of the way.

• In the classroom: Coaches guide career planning, exploration, job readiness, and professional development from junior year to graduation.

• Outside of the classroom: Scholars explore careers through a variety of opportunities in the major industries we support: healthcare, transportation, the skilled trades and education.

• In the workforce: We meet Scholars where they are — helping build resumes, navigate life’s challenges, eliminate barriers to career success, and serve as a reliable presence for up to six months after they secure a self-sustaining job.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to reach their career goals, and a Coach in their corner can help get them there.

“I didn’t know if I was going to college, what I would study, or what life looked like after graduation. Avenue Scholars gave me options.”

With his Career Coach Faith Kauzlarich in his corner, Scholar Jayden J. doesn’t have to navigate his next steps alone. Kauzlarich’s coaching and consistent positive reinforcement helped translate his interests into an actionable career plan. Now, Jayden plans to pursue phlebotomy or possibly paramedicine.

Currently a senior, Jayden will graduate in 2027 and Avenue Scholars will be there by his side as he transitions to the next phase of his career journey.

Shout out to Regina! 👏 Leading by example, our very own High School Career Coach Regina Rains presented yesterday at the Nebraska Educators Rising Fall Leadership Conference.

There she spoke to high school students interested in education on how to “Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable."

Opportunities like these not only help the students who are entering their careers in education, but give our Coaches a chance to share their expertise with even more young people in Omaha. Great job, Regina L Smith-Rains 💯

What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?

Today on First Job Friday, we ask Lindsay Decker, CEO, and Terrence Gillian, Senior Director of High School Programs.

Whether they were hauling dirt and clearing fields or offering friendly service as a dollar store cashier, our guests say they learned valuable lessons about showing up, being consistent, and building relationships.
