Some Nebraska Stare Fair events are in need of some help the first Saturday of the State Fair. August 26th The fair is held in Grand Island Nebraska

Jeremy Smith KCØNUK is looking for s looking for support for a couple of events

1 - hams to be along the route for the Nebraska State Fair Marathon - this requires a 5:00 AM start. - I would expect that this would be a position that would be best with a mobile radio. KCØNUK would be able to answer more questions.

2 - helping with the marching bands before they start on the parade route - this is a 9:00 AM start time. Not sure, but an HT might be useable for this..

I have an email in to him asking for more information - but you can also reach out directly to him at [email protected]

This is a great way to support amateur radio, and enjoy a bit of behind the scenes and get in some volunteer hours.

Field Day is probably the single most popular on-the-air event for hams in the US. Its a great time to practice setting up a station away from your home as part of an emergency drill sprinkled with a little fun and frivolity. So, its a lot of fun and a great way to practice your disaster communications skills.

The Salvation Army Western Division HQ SATERN group will be activating their radio room at the Emergency Disaster Services Building at 10629 Burt Circle in Omaha.

SATERN plans on at least 2 HF stations and a VHF station and will be adding temporary antennas to the station to make this happen. They will also operate on 100% emergency power. Operations will be in the garage area of the building so we can operate rain or shine.

We invite all area hams - especially new hams - to stop by between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday June 25th. Refreshments and snacks will be available for everyone.

Just a reminder that the Weekly SATERN Net is back after a short hiatus because of SATERN commitments at Hamvention.

The Net is currently held Monday nights at 7:00 pm on the 146.940MHz K0USA repeater. Newsline runs before net starts so tune in about 6:40 pm to hear it - then stay around to check in.

Please take a minute to look this over before heading out

Give this map a check before you go to sleep tonight. Light freezing rain showers will develop between 5-10 AM Friday, with patchy slick spots for the AM drive. Some spots will be warmer than freezing but others cold enough for ice, so keep in mind that things might change along your drive! This is is true even when moving from hills to valleys, bridges to solid surfaces, and treated to untreated roads.

01/13/2022

Now is the time to plan ahead Friday evening commuters! While the snow may be light tomorrow, it doesn't take an inch to cause a messy commute. Especially on a late Friday afternoon, when traffic accident rates typically peak.
