If you were affected by the October 1 flash floods and still need help recovering, call 211!

The Metro Omaha Flood-Recovery Group is working together to connect impacted residents with local agencies that can provide longer-term assistance based on their needs.

Calling 211 is the first step. Please help us spread the word to neighbors who may still need support.

“We know that close to 150 homes in Omaha were damaged by the October 1 flash floods,” said Douglas County Director of Emergency Management Whitney Shipley. “We have already started to see people from those households call into the 211 hotline, but we know that more people impacted by the flood are out there who haven’t yet called in.”

A recent Omaha Community Foundation workshop explored how nonprofits can strengthen fundraising and stewardship by building authentic connections with donors and community partners.

Both presenters, Kathy Schubauer, Director of Donor Services, and Scott Hazelrigg, JD, Principal at Compass North LLC and Former President at NorthStar Foundation, drew on years of personal experience building relationships with funders locally and offered insights on what matters most.

Practical lessons for building stronger donor relationships and long-term fundraising success Donors may first connect with an organization because they believe in the mission, but long-term support depends on strong […]

Our Community Investment team is expanding to better serve the local nonprofits that build a stronger community in Omaha.

We're excited to introduce a brand new position: Community Investment Coordinator. This role will help support programs and initiatives that serve nonprofit organizations.

Much of the impact happens behind the scenes. When training opportunities run smoothly, when participants have the information they need, and when programs stay organized from start to finish, that support makes a difference. This new position will help strengthen that foundation as our work continues to grow.

If you know someone who loves supporting meaningful work and helping others succeed, we'd love for you to share this opportunity with them.

We're hiring an Administrative Coordinator! We know at OCF that some of the most important work in an organization happens behind the scenes.

The Administrative Coordinator role helps create a welcoming experience for the people who visit our office, supports staff across the Foundation, and keeps countless day-to-day activities moving forward.

The Administrative Coordinator is often the person who helps connect the dots. They answer questions, solve problems, coordinate logistics, and help ensure that others have what they need to do their best work.

If you enjoy helping people and take pride in keeping things organized, this may be a great fit. You'll join a team that values relationships and believes every role contributes to strengthening our community.

A strong grant strategy starts long before the application.

One practical place to start: build your grants calendar backward from when funding is actually needed. Include more than application deadlines. Add prep time, expected award dates, reporting obligations, renewal windows, and any finance questions that could affect the budget.

That can help your team move from chasing deadlines to making better decisions.

Next, define your team, including people from program and finance perspectives. If your “grant team” is one person, that is a risk to plan around. At minimum, make sure more than one person knows the plan and the relationships.

Our latest blog shares takeaways from OCF’s recent Grant Seeking & Grant Writing for Financial Resilience workshop.

Practical guidance for building grant-seeking systems that support financial resilience For many nonprofits, grant writing can become a cycle of reacting to whatever deadline is closest. Staff rush to find […]

At the Omaha Community Foundation, we're fortunate to work alongside donors who care deeply about our community. We're currently hiring an Advisor to join our Donor Services team and help guide those conversations.

This role works directly with OCF fundholders, who are donors in the local community. Advisors at OCF help them identify opportunities to support the causes they care about and the impact they hope to make. It is a position built on trust and a genuine interest in people. Advisors spend their time getting to know donors, learning about their goals, and helping them connect their generosity to meaningful outcomes.

The right candidate will enjoy building relationships and being part of a team that believes philanthropy can strengthen our community.

Wildfire update:
More than $1.3 million has been distributed to support wildfire response and recovery efforts across Nebraska. This coordinated effort directed more than seven times the amount raised through the Omaha Community Foundation's Nebraska Wildfires Response Fund toward affected communities.

In partnership with organizations including the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association, Nebraska Bankers Association Foundation, and The Sherwood Foundation, funding has helped volunteer fire departments recover costs that are often not covered through traditional reimbursement programs. Support has been used for equipment replacement, vehicle and apparatus repairs, fuel reimbursement, personal protective equipment, and other recovery-related needs.

The Omaha Community Foundation is proud to participate in the Heartland Honors 9/11 campaign, a community-wide effort that invites all of us to remember, reflect, and show appreciation through action.

"I was in Omaha that day, having returned just the day before from a trip that included New York City and San Francisco. Days earlier, I had taken a flight similar to one that was later attacked.

The gravity of that reality did not fully sink in until much later. In those first hours, my instinct and focus was on the people around me."

Read more from OCF President and CEO Donna Kush as we commemorate 9-11.

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, reflect on the enduring importance of service, gratitude, and community.
