SMART Local 3 Our Mission at Local 3 is to represent all sheet metal workers within the jurisdiction of this Local

The Sheet Metal Union of Omaha, Nebraska was started by a number of dedicated tradesmen in the late 1880’s. Omaha, together with six other mid-western metal labor groups, met on January 25, 1888 in Toledo, Ohio to form the “Tin Sheet-Iron and Cornice Workers International Union.”
Omaha became Local #3 and Leo Hart from Omaha became General Vice President. In 1897, the name was changed to “Amalgama

Did you know? Sheet metal workers can do more than fabricate and install HVAC systems, they can test them, too.

Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) technicians measure airflow throughout a building and make adjustments to help an HVAC system operate as designed.

Why does that matter? Properly balanced airflow can help maintain consistent temperatures, improve comfort, and support efficient HVAC performance.

TAB is just one of the specialized career paths available in the sheet metal trade, alongside HVAC installation and service, fabrication, welding, and architectural sheet metal.

There’s a lot more to sheet metal work than meets the eye.
