Verbal Gumbo is holding space and sending love to friends, family and loved ones, as we acknowledge the passing of Debora Wisneski.

Debra was a beautiful being. The kind of person whose words carried love in them, love for people, for life, and even in the simple ways she spoke about pets and everyday joy. There was always something tender and real in how she showed up through her writing and her presence.

As a professor, she did the quiet but powerful work of shaping educators. She poured into student teachers, helped bring out what was already in them, and reminded them of who they could become. That kind of work doesn’t end in the classroom, it continues in every life she touched and every room those educators will ever walk into.

She will be missed. Deeply.
She is deeply loved.
Deep bow, Debora.

The Creative Restoration Edition
Because poetry is not just something we produce — it’s something that restores us.
This month, we honor creativity through care, reflection, and small moments of returning to ourselves.
Write gently.
Create freely.
Care for the artist while honoring the art.
Swipe, save, and play along throughout National Poetry Month.
Mark each square as you nourish your creative spirit …no pressure, just presence.

Tag a poet or creative who should journey through this with you.

Let this be the month you create without abandoning yourself.
