Healthy Housing Omaha

Healthy Housing Omaha Working to ensure that every child has a safe and healthy home, regardless of their zip code Vision: A healthy home for every child

Healthy Housing Omaha (HHO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the health and safety of children and families by improving homes in our community. Through our work within our clients’ homes and the larger Omaha metro, HHO reduces the physical and economic impact of environmental hazards in homes. Our programs address the root causes of illness that stem from the home’s environment

, because environmental hazards often exacerbate health conditions like lead poisoning or asthma. We know that our community is better able to learn, work, and play when their homes are not making them sick; which is why our organization and programming are built upon our core belief that healthy housing is a human right. Mission: Healthy Housing Omaha advocates for families in our community by providing environmental assessments, construction upgrades, and healthy housing education. By delivering resources and education about healthy housing, we work to ensure that every child has a safe and healthy home, regardless of their zip code.

Running your water for 60 seconds before you serve yourself drinking water can help prevent exposure to lead in older homes. Older homes can have leaded pipes. If anything disturbs the pipes or if a part of the pipe is removed, it could release lead into the water.

Contact your local water authority for information about testing and identifying lead in your water!

Before it was banned in 1978, lead used to be in paint. It can still be found in older homes and as lead paint starts to get old it can start to peel, chip, or crack which can become a hazard to those who live in the home. One of the ways you can tell if you have lead paint is if it looks like alligator skin when it starts to peel.

If you would like to know more about lead or how to get your home tested, HHO can help with that. Visit out website healthyhousingomaha.org and fill out our request for service form.
