A special limited Civilian Bargaining (Local 251) transfer period starts 8am on Monday, May 11, 2026 and is active through 4:30pm on Monday, May 18, 2026. The transfer request form is available only online, allowing employees to access it from anywhere during the transfer period. Paper copies are not accepted.

NOTE:

This is a special limited transfer period outside of the typical March and September transfer periods for Civilian Bargaining (Local 251) employees. All other transfer rules per the CBA still apply, including but not limited to the following:

any request submitted and approved is valid for six (6) months

an employee may only transfer once in any twelve (12) months

seniority considerations apply if more requests are received than available vacancies

Please refer to Article 11 of the CBA, which includes all applicable rules and regulations regarding transfers.

The only classifications that may request transfers during this period are Automotive Equipment Operator I (AEO I) and Automotive Equipment Operator II (AEO II).

The only department/division available to transfer into is the Impound Lot, a division of the Police Services Bureau (PSB) in the Police Department.

Today we celebrate the strength, sacrifice, and love of all the amazing mothers of AFSCME.

To the women who work tirelessly on the job and still come home to care for their families, guide their children, support their communities, and uplift those around them, we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.

Whether you are raising children, mentoring others, caring for loved ones, or serving as the backbone of your household, your dedication does not go unnoticed. Your strength helps keep our workplaces, our union, and our communities moving forward every single day.

From all of us, Happy Mother’s Day to every AFSCME mother, grandmother, stepmother, guardian, and mother figure. We hope today brings you the love, appreciation, and recognition you truly deserve.

Union moms do it all: raise families, care for others and fight for dignity on the job. This Mother’s Day, we honor the working mothers who never stop showing up for their loved ones, coworkers and communities.

AFSCME Local 251 is proud to officially endorse Jess Goldoni for the Nebraska Legislature.

This endorsement is rooted in more than politics, it is rooted in understanding the value of public service and the people who keep our communities moving every single day.

As Jess shared in her own words, her husband Brett has proudly served the City of Omaha for more than 20 years and is a proud 251 union member. She understands firsthand the sacrifices, dedication, long hours, and commitment that public employees make to serve the people of Nebraska. That perspective matters.

Our members are the workers who repair streets during snowstorms, maintain public infrastructure, keep our communities safe, provide vital services, and continue showing up no matter the challenge. We need leaders at the Legislature who respect working people, understand collective bargaining, and are willing to fight for fairness, safe working conditions, and strong public services.

Jess Goldoni has demonstrated that she values the voices of working families and public employees. Local 251 believes she will bring that same commitment to Lincoln.

Please join Nebraska Public Employees AFSCME Local 251 in supporting Jess Goldoni for the Nebraska Legislature.

Honored to receive the full endorsement of Nebraska Public Employees AFSCME Local 251.

This endorsement is particularly meaningful to me.

My husband Brett has been a proud member of this union and has worked for the City of Omaha for more than 20 years. I’ve seen firsthand the dedication, long hours, and commitment it takes to keep our community running.

This endorsement represents hardworking public employees who show up every day to serve others. I’m running to make sure they’re supported, respected, and fought for at the Legislature.

Brothers and Sisters,

On Friday, May 1st, working people across Omaha are coming together to send a clear message: Workers deserve respect, fair wages, and a voice on the job.

There will be a Workers Over Billionaires Rally at Memorial Park (60th & Dodge) from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and Local 251 will be there.

This is about more than one issue; it’s about standing together and reminding those in power that the strength of this city comes from the people who do the work every day.

We’ve been fighting for:

Fair wages and proper classifications
Safe working conditions
Respect for the contract and the work we do
An end to the privatization of public spaces

Now it’s time to show up and stand united with other labor organizations and community allies who are fighting the same fight.

Bring your family. Bring a fellow member. Wear your union gear.

When we show up together, we send a message that can’t be ignored.

We will see you there.

In Solidarity,

Tony Burkhalter
President, AFSCME Local 251

Today, the Nebraska Supreme Court made its decision in our remote work case. The court determined that remote work is covered by our contract, and the State was not obligated to negotiate with our union. The Supreme Court ruled in our favor regarding legal fees. The Court found that our case was not frivolous, and ordered the state to pay its own legal fees.

Today's decision is not the end of this case. The decision allows a case pending in the District Court of Lancaster County to proceed. Union members are invited to a virtual meeting on Thursday, April 23 at 7pm central to learn more. Link to register is in the comments. Union members should check their email for more information.
