Our Fall Festival family engagement night on Saturday was a lot of fun! The mentees demonstrated the Pillar of Creativity throughout the evening by doing fun activities and creating wonderful works of art!
Mentees did an activity called Escape the Haunted Room, where they completed a series of challenges to unlock the padlock and get out of the gym.
One of the challenges was reaching inside a box filled with mystery items. Without saying what the item was, the mentees had to describe it to their teammates, and each successful guess gained one point for the team. Another challenge was to build a tower using cups and straws to support a small pumpkin. For the third challenge, one mentee per team drew a spooky creature or scene. Then, they had to describe the steps and details to their teammates in order for them to draw a similar picture. The team with the most points at the end was able to use their clues to unlock the padlock and escape!
We also did an activity called Steal the Pumpkin. The "pumpkin patch" was full of pumpkins in the middle of the gym. There were 4 different teams competing to steal the pumpkins and bring them back to their "house". Two mentees were chosen to be scarecrows, and their job was to guard the pumpkins. If a mentee was tagged by a scarecrow, they had to sit down and await rescue from their teammates. Once the pumpkins were gone, the team with the most pumpkins in their house was the winner. The mentees had a lot of fun with this activity!
For our art project, families worked together to create a Fall/Halloween themed photo using picture frames, sharpies, and foil. Together these items created a shiny, faux stained-glass effect. These turned out so well, and it was fun to see the creative designs and color schemes that everyone came up with!
