Urban Acres Horse Rescue

Urban Acres Horse Rescue "Pastures in the shadow of the city". The pastures are gone, but the little acreage in the middle of the neighborhood in North Omaha is still there.

We started rescuing and rehabilitating horses in the early '90's, and continue to do so.

This past week was full of people and events. Raquel and Anita visited Star and gave her treats, Open Door Mission Men’s group enjoyed some time with the horses along with Bethany Lutheran Home who brought LOTS of apples and carrots for the horses, Rose showed off her pretty teeth for the camera. Bruce, Cindy and Elizabeth came Saturday to spend some time with the horses. Finally, we now have a porta pot which means we can have more visitors and events.
Let us know if you’d like to book an event at Urban Acres.

This is Sarah, her mother and their friend. Sarah has a lot to take care of and she stepped forward to make a donation to David to help him take care of things while he’s looking for work and a place to stay with his dog. We are so grateful for the kindness of a stranger who has now become a friend. Thank you so much for your donation of $500. ❤️

In the past few weeks there have been some major changes at the Rescue. Several people have been involved. We hired people to clean up and fix things, goat fence has been installed, our garden is thriving and 2 young horses are being trained to go to new homes soon. There are so many people to thank - Mitchell, Mateo, Duane, David, John, Bobby, LT, Rick, Alice, Ranim, Schwab volunteers, ODM, Mark and Eugene, Lisa
- to name a few. Everyone has worked very hard, one person in particular has put in up to 6 or 8 hours many days and has not had time to do his other jobs to earn money. I’m sharing this because he is in a spot where he needs some help. Our donations are down and even though he works and volunteers, he now needs gas for his truck, dog food and food for himself. He is so focused that he wouldn’t go do other jobs until the rescue was finished. We are still working.
Does anyone have any jobs you need completed or help with? Or, if you’d like to help him directly, you can go to our Venmo website and donate to help him get food, gas and take care of bills. Everything donated to us will go directly to David. He has worked so hard to help us get on our feet. We don’t want to lose him because he is very good at fixing/making things but he needs $ so let us know if you have jobs for him to do for you.
Thanks to everyone for your support. ❤️

Stayed tuned for upcoming events in the near future!

We had a great visit today with Sara, her mom Marlene and Becky. They got to visit with the horses and some of the other animals at the rescue. Thank you so much for very generous donation to the rescue. It sure helps us a lot! Come back again any time!

Thank you so much to Janelle and David Ford for their generous gifts of horse tack, a couple of heavy duty trash cans, some blankets, senior feed, tack and a brand new 16’ gate to protect the big round bales on the hill. She messaged me and asked what we really needed. I immediately thought of the gate, wasn’t expecting one especially not a brand new one and we are all so grateful to receive this. Our rescue is coming together and safer, more efficient thanks to all the help we have been given.
Thanks again Janelle & David!

Today was a big day for us! 15 employees from Charles Schwab returned for another year (I think this is #3) of volunteering at the rescue.
We want to express our most sincere gratitude to Jada, Tiffany, Jack, Bree, Mitch, Daniel, Alexis, Alberto, Spence, David and Kathy who organizes this event each year. The fields were full of random twigs, branches, lumber and rocks and now it is clear and walkable. Thanks also to David for leading a crew to install field fencing inside the property to keep goats in and horses from sticking their out and escaping. Such a great job and hard workers!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Recently we asked for volunteer help working in the property cleaning up from winter and getting the vegetable garden ready and planted but the most important reason we need help is this: There are practically no pollinators on the acreage and they are so important to everything living there and in the environment.
Our goal is to clear litter and keep the weeds down in order to surround the property with flowering plants to attract bees, butterflies and as many species of pollen spreaders as possible. We need them for all of our survival.
We have a tiller, tools and seeds. All you need to bring is yourself, energy
and ideas.
Contact us if you have any ideas or questions. 402-657-9247
