Friendship Program, Inc. Friendship Program, Inc. was a nonprofit aging and mental health organization offering Adult Aging, Day Rehabilitation, & Community Support services.

The agency provided services from 1979 - 2020. Friendship Program permanently closed on August 13, 2020. Friendship Program Inc. is a private non-profit agency committed to creating a caring and supportive environment to assist elderly and disabled individuals to remain independent in the community. The agency offers Adult Day Services, Day Rehabilitation Services, Community Support Services, Case

Management, and Peer Support Services. Through comprehensive provision of each of these services, Friendship Program gives evidence of its dedication to community integration, normalization, and self-determination by the persons served. Services are based on the needs of the individual and are provided at the intensity and duration appropriate for each individual or situation. In order to carry out our Mission Statement, Friendship Program, Inc. provides the following:

Rehabilitative services which facilitate maximum independence and life satisfaction for adults;

Education and assistance in developing daily living skills, independent living skills, and pre-vocational skills;

Family respite and support;

Social and recreational opportunities;

Health promotion and health maintenance opportunities.

General information

Enroll in Friendship Program Referrals to become a participant at Friendship Program can be made by physicians, friends, family, social services, and other community agencies. Individuals concerned about their own well-being can refer themselves. To make a referral, call Friendship Program at (402) 393-6911 to set up an appointment with the Social Service Department. Once a referral has been made, our case workers will arrange for a referral follow up and assessments. Through this process, Friendship Program can best fit the participant to the proper services, needs, and goals to help them succeed. Day Rehabilitation Service can be paid for by private pay arrangement, Health and Human Service contracts, Region 6, and donations. Adult Day Services can be paid for by private pay arrangement, Health and Human Service contracts, Veteran's Administration and donations. Community Support Services can be paid for by private pay arrangement, Health and Human Service contracts, Region 6, and donations.

Friendship Program, Inc.'s Adult Day Service provides assistance to older adults and their families and caregivers. This service primarily supports individuals 55 years of age or older to live independently in the community while offering respite for families and caregivers.

Adult Day Services Offers:

Daily classes and activities to increase the participant's social and recreational opportunities including: discussion and reminiscing groups; health, weight, and exercise groups; academic education groups; leisure, gardening, and musical groups; and craft and ceramic groups.

Breakfast, lunch, and snack daily.

Friendship Program, Inc's Day Rehabilitation Services provides assistance to adults experiencing a mental illness. Through active participation in the program, participants receive services to improve their quality of life and their ability to manage day-to-day activities and responsibilities. The goal is to improve the participants' ability to live in the community, decreased frequency of hospitalizations, and encourage each person to live in the most independent situation possible.

Day Rehabilitation Services offers:

A diverse curriculum is provided in response to the specific needs of the participants including daily classes and activities to enhance knowledge of mental illness, medications, relapse prevention, daily living skills, and self advocacy; GED, job readiness, and volunteer opportunities; recreational and craft groups; and community outings.

Breakfast, lunch, and snack daily.

Friendship Programs, Inc.'s Community Support Service provides assistance to adults experiencing mental illness to remain independent and active members of the community. Staff members work closely with participants and their identified supports to achieve their goals, develop a support system, organize the home environment, develop techniques to remain stable, coordinate communications among services, and provided educational opportunities. Services are provided in the community.

Community Support Service Offers:

One-on-one assistance with enhancing daily living skills; managing home environment; teaching of basic living and cleanliness skills;

Organizing and expanding social opportunities; developing crisis management skills; expanding available community resources;

Coordinating communication with doctors, psychiatrists, family, and friends; reviewing and/or obtaining benefits and assistance; developing and enhancing educational and job seeking skills; and providing medication education and information.

Goal-oriented and individualized support through assessment, planning, linkage, advocacy, coordination, and monitoring of activities for the individual.

On-call phone coverage is available for emergency needs.
