Human trafficking is a complex issue. Anti-trafficking efforts must uphold best practices to ensure the highest level of prevention education and care for victims and survivors. 🐴 Healing Beyond Words 🐴
For years, our founder and director has witnessed the powerful impact horses can have on young and adult survivors of trafficking and exploitation. Today, she generously allows Innocence Freed to use her horses as part of our Equine-Assisted Learning program.

Through Equine-Assisted Learning, survivors build confidence, healthy boundaries, trust, and connection. Horses don't judge a person's past. They meet them exactly where they are.

For many child survivors, healing can feel overwhelming. Sometimes the most meaningful breakthroughs happen not in an office, but standing quietly beside a horse who offers trust, connection, and acceptance without judgment.

We are grateful for these incredible companions and the reminder that healing often begins with simply being seen.

Often, the first people to notice that something is wrong aren't professionals—they're friends, family members, teachers, coaches, or trusted adults.

Some warning signs may include:
• Sudden withdrawal from friends and family
• Secretive phone or online activity
• Unexplained gifts, money, or new possessions
• Significant changes in mood or behavior
• Frequent unexplained absences

While these signs don't automatically mean someone is being trafficked, they may indicate that a person needs support and a caring conversation.

At Innocence Freed, we often meet survivors during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

A woman needs to get to work but doesn’t have gas in her car.
A young survivor wants to return to school but lacks the supplies she needs.
A young girl attends counseling appointments but has no reliable transportation.
A mother struggles to keep the lights on or afford groceries for the week.

Sometimes the difference between crisis and stability is smaller than most people realize. Through our Stability Grants and scholarships, we help survivors overcome immediate barriers so they can continue moving forward in healing, recovery, and independence.

As Omaha welcomes visitors from across the country for the College World Series and the U.S. hosts the World Cup, it's a good time to separate fact from fiction about human trafficking.

While large events can create opportunities for traffickers, human trafficking occurs every day, year-round. Traffickers exploit vulnerabilities such as abuse, homelessness, poverty, and addiction in communities across the country. The reality is that exploitation often begins long before major events and continues long after they end.

Human trafficking is not just a big-city problem. During major events, visitors are reminded that trafficking exists in communities of all sizes, including rural and suburban areas.
