We wrapped up our 2025-26 season with a fun Card Class and Lunch Bunch in May!
Book Club will still meet the 4th Tuesday of every month at 11am at the Country Club during the summer. All other Tuesday meetings are on vacation until fall. But! We still have things to participate in this summer ☀️➡️➡️

We'll be doing BINGO during the Monona County Fair to raise money for Read to Succeed. If you see some good deals on things that would be fun prizes, start snagging them up! We really had amazing prizes last year and that makes it even more fun. BINGO is a great time for us all to catch up with each other, whether you want to play or help run the game, we look forward to seeing you at the Fair! 🎪🚜🎡

We are now part of the 🌿Garden Club. Some of the ladies will be doing Yard of the Month throughout the summer. Many of us have done various jobs to get flowers around the town! Thank you! And if anyone would like to volunteer to take a day or two to water plants in July, please let me (Lanna) know, it's very simple!

🚿To water: you only need to bring 1-2 milk jugs of water to 1 park sign. 1 or 2x.
Either Gaukel or Liberty. That's it.

If several people say they can do that 1-2x in July or August, we can get our calendar filled!📆 It is really important that the flowers get water in order to stay alive! June has been covered by volunteers in the community. Others have also volunteered to water the ball diamonds sign, the fairgrounds, and the Welcome to Onawa sign. So we just need to cover Gaukel and Liberty. Thank you to Linda Willman for being flexible and available to water Liberty Park also! 🦋🌸🌼

If at any time you see a planter downtown or at the pool that looks thirsty, could you please give it a drink and let me know. Each business owner is responsible for watering theirs, but they are also not open everyday - so it does take a village. We all know how quickly they dry out. I am hoping the planters are all full and vibrant during the Fair and Ragbrai! 😍

Another opportunity for fun and activity: water aerobics! Several of us like to attend those; they will begin as soon as the pool chemicals are ready. (Which they are expecting to be any day now.) So if you are missing friends, head to the pool and be prepared for FUN!! You don't have to be coordinated to enjoy water aerobics, trust me! 🌊🧜‍♂️

Patrick Kennedy's troop (Shannon's son) will be in Sloan next weekend with the Freedom Truck. If you're out and about, stop for some lunch and to check out the museum. I'm sure this will be very cool to see!

Lunch Bunch is Tuesday, May 19! We will go to The Bake Shop and café in Dension for lunch at 11:30.

Some of our members plan to go to Cheryl Sklors-Jensen house (The Murphy House Mansion) to help assist when the elementary kids visit that day by being in various rooms. If you plan to do that and can't make lunch bunch, that's great. There was talk of grabbing some lunch in town after that.

This post is a feeler because we didn't make a final decision on Tuesday at card class. We do have enough members, that if some want to go to Cheryl's and some want to go to lunch bunch, it works out! Make the decision based off of what you want to do! RSVP here please!

Card Class is Tuesday, May 12th!

There are only 2 left for 2026: this Tuesday and one in October.

Join us for the morning session at 10am and/or the afternoon session at 1 pm. Lunch is at noon. Please RSVP for which class you are attending and if you will join us for lunch so that my dad knows how much to make. Its always a fun day and a delicious lunch.

There will also be a garden club meeting in a separate room at 1230 pm!

We will meet Tuesday, May 5th at Frannie's at 11:15 for socializing and will order food at 11:30. This is our last general meeting until fall!

It's also our May Day basket exchange for those who want to participate. Bring a May Day gift basket if you like to do this exchange, limit is $15. 😃

Don't forget to come with proposals for projects, outings, different places to go for lunch bunch, craft ideas, and any other ideas for 2026-27. Write them down now so that it's easier to remember as we're all going over it.

One idea for a project was to help out with the candied apples next fall. Do we have more info on how we can help out with that and who we need to contact and when they would need us?

All ideas for anything we can do and achieve together are welcome!! What can we do to help our community and build friendships?

Anyone who needs to get back to work, we will take your ideas before you leave! Looking forward to seeing you all. 🥰

Next Tues, Apr 28 is Book Club. Even if you didn't read the book, come as we've lots to decide for next year! It's my favorite mtg - we pick the books we'll read for next year! Always lots of great new ideas for my list... Also, will we try to meet this summer? And what time is best for our mtgs? Guests and new faces are always welcome and this is a fun one!

21 of us walked around the beautiful gardens to see the "Save the Humans" trolls exhibit created by Thomas Dambo made out of recycled wood.

6 young trolls pledge to help humans stop harming the planet. Each has a unique personality and message highlighting sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. See below each troll pic for their name and their goal for us.

The exhibit and gardens should help encourage each of us to slow down and rediscover the beauty and balance of the natural world. 🌎 🗺 ♻️

Next Tuesday, April 21st we get to go to Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha to visit the troll exhibit and have lunch in their café. If you are riding with Lanna or Dave Radke, please meet at the south end of the high school parking lot at 950 to leave Onawa by 10am. Anyone ride sharing is also welcome to meet there.
