Lunch Bunch is Tuesday, May 19! We will go to The Bake Shop and café in Dension for lunch at 11:30.

Some of our members plan to go to Cheryl Sklors-Jensen house (The Murphy House Mansion) to help assist when the elementary kids visit that day by being in various rooms. If you plan to do that and can't make lunch bunch, that's great. There was talk of grabbing some lunch in town after that.

This post is a feeler because we didn't make a final decision on Tuesday at card class. We do have enough members, that if some want to go to Cheryl's and some want to go to lunch bunch, it works out! Make the decision based off of what you want to do! RSVP here please!

We will meet Tuesday, May 5th at Frannie's at 11:15 for socializing and will order food at 11:30. This is our last general meeting until fall!

It's also our May Day basket exchange for those who want to participate. Bring a May Day gift basket if you like to do this exchange, limit is $15. 😃

Don't forget to come with proposals for projects, outings, different places to go for lunch bunch, craft ideas, and any other ideas for 2026-27. Write them down now so that it's easier to remember as we're all going over it.

One idea for a project was to help out with the candied apples next fall. Do we have more info on how we can help out with that and who we need to contact and when they would need us?

All ideas for anything we can do and achieve together are welcome!! What can we do to help our community and build friendships?

Anyone who needs to get back to work, we will take your ideas before you leave! Looking forward to seeing you all. 🥰

21 of us walked around the beautiful gardens to see the "Save the Humans" trolls exhibit created by Thomas Dambo made out of recycled wood.

6 young trolls pledge to help humans stop harming the planet. Each has a unique personality and message highlighting sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. See below each troll pic for their name and their goal for us.

The exhibit and gardens should help encourage each of us to slow down and rediscover the beauty and balance of the natural world. 🌎 🗺 ♻️

Next Tuesday, April 21st we get to go to Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha to visit the troll exhibit and have lunch in their café. If you are riding with Lanna or Dave Radke, please meet at the south end of the high school parking lot at 950 to leave Onawa by 10am. Anyone ride sharing is also welcome to meet there. Lists in the comments.

More about the trolls...
Created by internationally acclaimed artist Thomas Dambo, TROLLS: Save the Humans is an immersive exhibition that brings six larger-than-life trolls to the garden’s 100-acre landscape, blending art, nature, and sustainability in a truly unforgettable way.

The story begins at the legendary “Trolliefolkyfest,” where six young trolls pledge to help humans stop harming the planet and reconnect with the natural world. While older trolls have lost hope, this spirited group sets out to inspire people to become better stewards of the Earth.

Now in Omaha, these gentle giants are hidden throughout Lauritzen Gardens, inviting guests to explore, reflect, and reconnect with nature. Crafted entirely from recycled wood, each towering troll has a unique personality and message, highlighting sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. These whimsical sculptures encourage visitors of all ages to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and rediscover the beauty and balance of the natural world. (Lauritzengardens.org)

There is no card class this week. We will meet next Tuesday, April 21 to traverse to the Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha to visit the Dambo Troll Exhibit, "Save the Humans". 🌍 We will leave Onawa at 10am.

The Dambo Trolls are large, whimsical sculptures made from recycled wood by Danish artist and environmental activist Thomas Dambo. These figures are hidden in natural landscapes worldwide to encourage people to explore nature and highlight the value of discarded materials. ♻️ 🪵

Full house ladies!! Thank you to the women of the First Christian Church for the delicious soup flights and salad luncheon. Everything was fabulous and so organized!! 🍲 🥗

Today we got to hear from a local, Emily Heisterkamp Knittel, who is now a music teacher in Omaha and a Fulbright Scholar. 🎶💫

Fulbright scholars are chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential, acting as cultural ambassadors in their host countries. Emily worked hard and was awarded this prestigious opportunity to travel to India and teach music in schools there while also learning and absorbing the Indian culture. We were privileged to have her share a bit of her experience with us!

There's often more going on in town than one realizes. Today the event was organized by Woman's Club and I welcome you to follow our page for more activities all the time. We invite any and all community members to join us for events, community service projects or fun activities we have going on. Whether you come to 1 thing a year, or 21 - you're always welcome.

Tuesday, April 21st, we will be taking an excursion to the Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha to visit the Dambo Troll Exhibit, "Save the Humans". 🌍 We will leave Onawa at 10am.

Movie day 🎬

Tuesday, March 31 at 1 pm we will meet at Shannon Kennedy's house to watch The Bad Guardian.

🎞The Bad Guardian stars Melissa Joan Hart and La La Anthony, based on real-life cases of conservatorship abuse, about a daughter's fight against a corrupt court-appointed guardian who takes over her elderly father's life and finances. The thriller follows Leigh (Hart) as she uncovers a scheme where the guardian, Janet (Anthony), manipulates the system to exploit vulnerable seniors, leading Leigh to expose the corruption.

Anyone is welcome to join us! Bring a covered drink and if you'd like, a small snack to share that is easy to eat during the movie. We always have fun on this laid back Tuesday. 🎥

*note: we have changed our movie from the original post stating we'd watch the Thursday Murder Club. That movie will be shown on Saturday, April 25th at the Iowa Theater, Onawa Iowa and put on Monona County Libraries. Onawa Public Library. We encourage everyone to join us that day also!
