We wanted to give a huge thank you to Wine, Beer, and Spirits Omaha for selecting us as their charity for their Christmas Bourbon Barrel fundraiser. They also hosted our members last night for a reception and check presentation and we had a fantastic time. Thank you also to everyone who purchased a barrel to raise funds for our chapter!

Staff Spotlight: South High Graduate Returns as School Resource Officer

School Resource Officer Rosa Perez sees her role as more than enforcing rules. She describes herself as an educator, counselor, protector and, most importantly, a consistent presence for students.

Perez makes it a priority to walk the hallways, check in with students and build relationships one conversation at a time.

“I graduated from South High and grew up near the Kroc Center,” Perez said. “Being back in the hallways here feels like coming home.”

Every third Thursday of the month, Perez hosts “Protect and Snack,” inviting students to gather during lunch for informal conversations with officers from other units. The event is not a consequence or a detention — it is simply a chance to connect in a relaxed setting.

“It’s just showing them that yes, there’s this uniform, but we’re just like them,” Perez said. “We want to get to know them, and we want the best for them.”

Students ask thoughtful questions, and the informal atmosphere builds trust. While free snacks may draw students in, Perez sees the gathering as an opportunity to strengthen relationships.

Her path to law enforcement was not traditional. Perez attended hair school and worked in a salon for two years before realizing her passion was working with youth. That realization led her to a career centered on service and mentorship.

Now serving at her alma mater, Perez hopes students see more than a badge — she hopes they see someone who believes in their abilities.

Today we celebrate a legend of South Omaha! Ofelia Robles is retiring after 30 years as the Omaha Police Department’s Southeast Crime Prevention Specialist. Ofelia has been a pillar of the Latino community, building a powerful bridge between our community and police officers. Her vision brought wildly successful events—Pop with a Cop, Christmas with the Blue, Meet & Treat—that brought together countless families and fostered genuine connection. She coordinated toy drives for kids, supported the Southeast Precinct tirelessly, and always assisted Spanish-speaking families. Ofelia has been a huge supporter of NLPOA Omaha, always inviting and including us in her major events.

Ofelia, tu legado nos inspira. ¡Gracias por todo!
