IHE's Featured Program for September is Anne Frank: A History for Today.

A powerful traveling exhibit that tells Anne Frank’s story, helps visitors understand the broader history of the Holocaust and World War II. Developed through a partnership between the Institute for Holocaust Education, the University of South Carolina’s Anne Frank Center, and the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the bilingual, 32-panel exhibit combines photographs, excerpts from Anne’s diary, and historical information. The exhibit encourages meaningful conversations about human rights, tolerance, and the importance of standing up against prejudice and discrimination.

The exhibit is primarily hosted in middle and high schools and the students are trained to become peer guides. The guides then lead visitors through the exhibit and share what they have learned about Anne Frank and her experiences. The program helps students think critically, build empathy, and understand the importance of standing up against prejudice and discrimination. Most schools also host a Community Night, where families and the public can visit the exhibit and learn from the student guides.

During the Holocaust, ordinary Danish citizens risked their lives to help approximately 7,200 Jews escape N**i persecution. Their courage shows what’s possible when people choose to act.

The Tribute to the Rescuers Essay Contest challenges students to explore moral courage and connect it to their own lives and communities.

Open to students in grades 9–12, the contest offers cash prizes of $100–$800 in two grade-level categories.

IHE's Third Thursday Lunch and Learn on September 17 will feature Scott Littky.
Littky, Executive Director of the Institute for Holocaust Education, traveled this summer to Poland as a member of the staff for the Kaiman Nuremburg to the Hague program. Scott will share his reflections on his visit to Warsaw, Krakow, and Prague and how it relates to the work that IHE is doing. IHE's Featured Program of the Month:

Hana’s Suitcase premieres in Omaha this November as a special one-time program combining live theatre with community dialogue. Presented by Circle Theatre in partnership with IHE, the event includes an Omaha Public Library discussion with special guest Lara Brady, niece of Hana Brady; exploring the story’s historical context, followed later in the month by a performance of the play.

Based on a true story, Hana’s Suitcase follows the discovery of a child’s suitcase from Auschwitz at the Holocaust Education Centre in Tokyo. As curator Fumiko Ishioka and local children investigate the life of Hana Brady, their search spans continents and uncovers a powerful story of family, loss, resilience, and remembrance. Through inventive multimedia storytelling, the production highlights how learning about the past can inspire empathy and understanding.
