Happy World Autism Awareness Day! 💙

Today we celebrate the amazing kids and families in our community and shine a light on autism acceptance and understanding. Every person on the spectrum brings something special to the world, and we’re honored to walk alongside them.

At Bridge to Independence, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we’ve been focused on helping kids build real skills and confidence. Since we started offering in-person services, we’ve had the privilege of serving over 500 kids on the spectrum. And all over the world, we’ve given away more than 30,000 free autism books to families, teachers, and anyone who needs them.

As our way of celebrating today, we want to share something special with you:

Our free ebook called “Amazing Me: A Kid’s Guide to Understanding Autism.” It’s a simple, heartwarming story that helps kids (and grown-ups too) understand autism better and see how differences make us stronger.

Emergency food assistance-

Roughly 50 percent of individuals who have a cognitive disability also struggle with a food aversion and over a quarter of these families struggle with food security.

With the cut of benefits in November, we understand that families with a loved one who has a disability are especially vulnerable.

So if you are in need of a safe food for your loved one, or they have allergies that can not be accommodated at typical food banks, reach out to us!

This is a long post- bare with us.

There is a lot of uncertainty right now. To be frank this economy sucks. Many of our partners who rely on government funding are seeing cuts left and right.

We are aware there is and likely will continue to be cuts to Medicaid funding for healthcare services.

We are aware SNAP benefits are also likely to be impacted making millions go without critical funding for food.

Now more then ever we have to rely on our community- so let us be YOUR COMMUNITY!

Y’all we are here to serve you. In our first year of operating we made the decision to rely solely on the generosity of others. Meaning, we don’t take insurance, we don’t get government funding, we don’t do grants. This limits us like crazy, but we do it so when times like this do happen, we thrive, because we simply need to remain steadfast in what we’ve been doing.

And if you have the means to donate- know that 100% of your money goes directly to serving those you intend it to. All of our staff is volunteer based so we can allot funds to where they actually need to go.

With changes in Medicaid funding regarding ABA we have had several families approach asking for guidance on where they can go to seek services. We have established a short list of companies committed to serving those on Medicaid and are happy to help any family navigate new care if needed. Just reach out.

Whew- we have provided just roughly 500 hours of free adapted tutoring services this summer and at the start of school!

That is crazy!

If your child is struggling to transition into the school year, we would love to help them with our free adaptive tutoring program!

We specialize in working with those with Autism/ ADHD, although we are proud to serve all who approach us!

It’s time for a Giveaway!

We’ve been blessed by y’all’s support over the last few months, and we are excited to pay it forward!

For the grand prize we want to give either a nonprofit or a family a free sensory room! One of our OTs on staff will connect with you, discuss the individual needs of your home/ site. From there we will purchase 500 dollars worth of equipment to get your new sensory room started, and provide a comprehensive packet on how to continue developing the room/ activities to facilitate in it! This is a judged entry so be detailed and creative!

To enter, simply share this post and share what your dream sensory room would include! We will be running this for a month so as many families as possible can enter!

Contest will end August 18th end of day, and the winners will be announced August 22nd!
