IFOC Heartland Chaplains Corps

IFOC Heartland Chaplains Corps Because nobody should have to go through trauma alone! - IFOC We currently cover all of Nebraska, northern Kansas, and western Iowa. Simple as that.

The IFOC Heartland Chaplain Corps is a group of Chaplains certified through the International Fellowship of Chaplains. Our “job” (as volunteers) is to serve our communities. Sometimes that’s just someone needing a new friend to talk to, to get that “outside perspective;” but oftentimes it is to get some loving support during times of trauma, grief, addiction, and hardship. In addition to helping i

ndividuals, we also assist organizations (for example, we can set up a schedule where one, or a few of us, go in once or twice a week to be a listening ear and positive support for patients or employees going through hard times). In addition to being trained in how to help people in traumatic situations, we are equipped to offer many community resources tailored to individually assessed needs. Although we are a Christian non-profit, we do not discuss anything “religious” with the people we talk to, unless we are directly asked to do so by them. Our main goal is to provide love and support when people need it the most. FOR MORE INFO:

Great meeting last night with two new chaplains joining us via Zoom. One is from Omaha and one from from out west, in Arnold, Ne. We talked about upcoming trainings and watched this month's new video from IFOC. If you have not joined us in a while, we'd love to see you again. Meetings are the first Friday evening of each month, although last night we were delayed by a week due to the threat of icy roads last week.

This Friday is the first Friday of the month, so it's meeting time! If you're on our e-mail list, you received the meeting info and Zoom link. We'll be in Ashland at 7 p.m. We'd love for you to join us.

Hey Chaplains, if you have availability this week and would like to help with post-storm efforts in Blair, your presence would be appreciated. Please call Corps Commander Marcia Nabors at 402-881-5901.

Hey, Chaplains, please be sure and read the Aug 1 e-mail newsletter from IFOC closely. There is a note about a training on abuse that we all need to take. Our Corps Assistant Commander, Beth, completed the training and found it very useful. The training is free, and should take around an hour, maybe a bit more. There is a quiz after you watch the training videos, and successful completion of ets you a certificate that is automatically sent to IFOC.

Our Heartland Corps commander, Marcia, with her family, and our assistant commander, Beth, went outdoors today armed with several trash bags, gloves, and of course sack lunches and plenty of water, to do some trash pickup at a wildlife management area in NW Lancaster County. So often, wildlife agency staff who got into their work because they love being out in creation have to see these beautiful areas marred by all the trash left behind by some of the visitors. We wanted to minister to these staff by providing some encouragement. We also got to meet conservation officer McDonald, who was very friendly and greatly appreciative of people taking the time to clean up the area.

What a great meeting this morning! We were at Capitol City Christian Church in Lincoln for our monthly meeting. Dave G. shared with the group on the topic of a chaplain's go-bag. Whether you're serving the homeless, or law enforcement and firefighters, or those who have experienced the death of a loved one, or you're at a disaster scene, or you're serving in a hospital or nursing home or school, there are things a chaplain should always have along, and there are more venue- or event-specific items that are good to have. Thanks so much to Dave for the training and to those who contributed questions and ideas. Also, thanks to all who joined us, whether in person or via Zoom.

It's coming up fast! This Saturday, March 15th in Lincoln, at Capitol City Christian Church, is our monthly Corps meeting. We'll have training on a chaplain's go-bag. Please use the west entry. Meeting is at 9:00 a.m.

At our March 15 Corps meeting, we'll have go-bag training - what a chaplain should carry when on call, in the field, on duty, etc. We would love a head count of our IFOC Heartland Corps chaplains who will attend. If you can let Beth, Marcia, or Rob know, we'd appreciate it! We will hold this meeting in Lincoln if some of our peeps west of Omaha are planning to attend.

Excellent de-escalation training by Barry Young's Serving Heroes organization in Lincoln today! Some of our Corps chaplains were present, as well as chaplains from Lincoln who serve police, sheriff, fire, and corrections, and OPD chaplains from Omaha. Marcia and Beth got a pic with Barry and his wife, Kelly.
