Today was the final day of the 2026 Omaha Black College & Enrichment Tour! While wrapping up our last day, we got a chance to visit Harris-Stowe State University where one of our tour social media managers, LaVeya Nelson, got her full tuition paid for the spot!

During the tour, we also got an insight on the five shared partnership programs that HSSU provides such as Goldfarb School of Nursing, Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Saint Louis University College of Engineering, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, and Washington University! Our students were also able to talk to the head of Early Childhood who told them about the program where you can be a full-time student while also getting paid to work as a substitute teacher!

Alexis Brown - "I could see myself at Harris-Stowe because of the affordability. It is also a smaller school so it would be a good fit based academically."

With that, the tour has come to an end. though we're ready to head home all of our students are excited about the opportunities that were granted on the tour this year and cannot wait for next year! Thank you HSSU for ending our trip in a very special way, until next time!

Today, March 19th, we got the pleasure to visit 2 of the top 3 HBCUS in the world, Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. Our ladies were greeted by two Senior Student Ambassadors that shared their great love for Spelman. They let us in on a tradition that they have for graduating seniors; after graduating, they use the Arch as a transition from a Spelman Knight to a Spelman Woman. It is said that if you walk through it before graduation, you will NOT graduate on time so neither of the tour guides were willing to take that chance. Our ladies had a great time at Spelman and enjoyed how the Student Ambassadors carried themselves as young women, definitely a great example.

Shantel McKinley - "The Spelman Campus felt like home. I felt very welcomed there by the black women. I was surrounded by black excellence and I felt like I could be just as well-rounded as a Spelman Woman."

While our ladies were visiting Spelman, the gentlemen were visiting Morehouse! There, our young men learned that the grass is sacred because there are dead bodies underneath from the Civil War and it is told that you can only walk on the grass if you have graduated. They also learned that when Morehouse men graduate, they switch their tassel to the right then back to the left since they are still learning and growing as men.

Trust Cavitt - "Morehouse focuses on academic excellence and also pushes you to strive for better, for yourself. I feel like Morehouse can help me achieve my goals by keeping me on the straight and narrow to prepare me for my educational career."

We also had the chance to get a mini tour from Clark Atlanta and Black College Tour alumni, Anthony Weston. He told us about his experience as a young man at Clark and how he transitioned from high school to college with he help of mentos at CAU. He also took us on a quick trip to the Robert W. Woodruff Library and once we got back, we got a chance to talk to the president of CAU, Dr. French. He was a big inspiration to our students and spoke such kind words. With only one more day left, it is safe to say that our students are really enjoying the 2026 Omaha Black College & Enrichment Tour!

Today, March 18th, was a busy day for our tour students! We got the chance to visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Georgia State University, and the MLK National Park! We began our day at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights where we got to see many quotes from people such as Maya Angelou, John Lewis, and James Baldwin. We even got the chance to check out an exhibit where we "walked a mile" in others' shoes. It included voice audios of individuals and their life stories.

Calix Pierce - "The Sit-in Protest Simulator stood out to me because it was the most hands on exhibit that connected me to the past."

Next, we visited Georgia State University. Although we were on a limited amount of time, Stacey Westbrook, an Omaha Native, made us feel very welcomed! We were able to view their Student Center as well as their four level Rec Center which was absolutely amazing!

Am'Agyn Spencer - "I enjoyed learning about GSU because it feels like home, especially after my experiences at PWIs. The University's top rankings in Undergraduate Teaching and Social Mobility proves that it doesn't just talk about equity, it's built into the curriculum."

Lastly, we visited the MLK National Park that included historical landmarks such as his house and the Historic Firehouse #6. It was an emotional rollercoaster for our students but the information is important to our history. The space was very open and inviting to the public. We are very thankful for this opportunity to inform our students on their history! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

On Tuesday, March 17th we kicked off the second day of the 2026 Omaha Black College & Enrichment Tour at North Carolina A&T! We were welcomed by their amazing Student Ambassadors, Miss Ga'Kiaya, a Nebraska Native, and Miss Willow. The tour started off with the ladies introducing us into the background of the A&T Four, four college freshmen who decided to stand up against racial injustice by sitting at a white-only lunch counter. It is said that if you touch the bottom of each one's foot, that you will get several scholarships, graduate in four years, and with a 4.0 GPA.
During the NCAT tour, we asked Tariq Hill "Can you see yourself here? If so, what makes you feel that way?" He said "Yes, I can see myself here. What makes me feel that way is the history behind it...It is a lot of people who look like me and that really influenced my decision on why I would want to come here." Thank you North Carolina A&T for an amazing visit, many of students voiced their love for !
Our next stop was Johnson C. Smith University where our seniors were awarded a total of $51,500 in scholarships! Way to lock in Class of 2026. The private HBCU, founded in 1867, has pride in their 11:1 student/faculty ratio, along with their football team who was the first to win a black college football game! We were able to visit their museum which focused on Brown vs. Board Education, a case that sought for Black children to go to school with White children.
After the tour, we asked Kenan Clark to rate the campus 1-10. He said "I would rate it a 7 because...I am used to smaller sized classes and I just like how it is not too small of a campus but not too big." Thank you JCSU for an unforgettable experience for our students, especially our seniors who were blessed with overflowing opportunities.

Sunday, March 15th was the first day of the 2026 Omaha Black College & Enrichment Tour. We had the chance to visit Downtown Nashville and create meaningful connections with our peers while scoping through the vibrant marketplaces. This included food trucks, candy shops, and a variety of restaurants. The space was very lively and our students enjoyed their first night of entertainment!
That very next day, we had the pleasure of visiting Tennessee State University where we were greeted by Miss Zaria Hobbs and her team of Student Ambassadors. They made it abundantly clear that you have create spaces for yourself once you get to college and be open to making to new connections with networking. A piece of advice that she gave us was to do one scholarship a day. She knows firsthand how overwhelming it can be but it has to be done. We also got a chance to see Greek Row, which honored the Divine Nine and a couple of our students also voiced their love for the Student Government Association.
During the tour, we saw a building that was donated by an Alumni of TSU, Oprah Winfrey. It is their Performing Arts Building that is made to reciprocate a piano! You can tell that so much thought was put into it and that it means so much to the TSU family. A quote from today that was very meaningful was "Education is the way to move mountains, to build bridges, to change the world. Education is the path to the future. I believe that education is indeed freedom." - Oprah Winfrey
Thank you Tennessee State University for making our first stop so special! We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
