The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation and Creighton University are co-hosting a summer book club to observe the 100th anniversary of Malcolm X's birth in Omaha.

We will read "Blood Brothers: The Fatal Friendship Between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X." We meet July 16, July 23, and Aug. 13 and you can participate in person or virtually. There are still a couple more free books! Registration:

While this group is inactive (see link in comments for info), this page has hundreds of followers and dozens of views a week, so I hesitate to close it. I hope folks are finding the list of Omaha organizations dedicated to racial justice in the pinned post and getting engaged.

If not, or even if so, what do you wish you had found here on this page? What brought you here? What would you want this group do in Omaha?

There are countless stories waiting to be amplified.

If you know of one, consider nominating someone, or inviting your networks to nominate, an “Unsung Hero.” The story of Charles Jackson French (and many others) encouraged some Creighton folks to create the Unsung Hero Project. Students in a class this fall will create an archive to recognize individuals whose achievements have not been widely recognized due to marginalized status or identity.

Nominees don’t need to be associated with Creighton or Omaha – they can be from anywhere in the U.S. Though the effort seeks to redress the omissions of history, nominees who are still living are encouraged.

To submit your unsung hero, visit creighton.edu/unsung-heroes. Nominations are due August 5, 2024.
