SCAM Warning- Free COVID-19 Money Offers on WhatsApp and Facebook Under the Guise of RSVP
Recent messages have surfaced on Facebook or WhatsApp offering free help during the pandemic. These messages falsely claim assistance from the Agency and the RSVP program.
What do you do if you get one of these messages? Don’t click on any links. That could download malware, expose you to even more scams, or add your phone number to lists sold to still other scammers. Just delete the messages and don’t share them. If it came from a friend, call the friend and ask if they forwarded it to you. If not, tell them their account might have been hacked.
Here are some additional tips:
If any communication came through Facebook, you may report these users directly to Facebook
Any online scams can be reported online to the FTC at: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
Internet crimes can also be reported to the FBI at: https://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx
If, by mistake, you end up providing money/funds to the scammers, contact their local police department
If the mail was used at any point in this scam, contact the Postal Inspector at: 1-877-876-2455. This number will then ask for a zip code, and will route the caller to an operator in that region and they can report their complaint to a local Postal Inspector.
Prior to filing a complaint with the IC3, please read the following information regarding terms and conditions. Should you have additional questions prior to filing your complaint, view FAQ for more information on inquiries such as:

Older people are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 which may result in increased stress during a crisis.
During this time, you will be able to receive a specific set of services through telehealth including evaluation and management visits (common office visits), mental health counseling without a copayment if you have Original Medicare. This will help ensure you are able to visit with your doctor, clinical psychologists, or licensed clinical social worker from your home, without having to go to a doctor’s office or hospital, which puts you and others at risk of exposure to COVID-19.
QUESTIONS ON COVERAGE? Call your healthcare provider or Nebraska Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) 402-444-6617.

RSVP offers a full range of volunteer opportunities with thousands of local and national organizations. With RSVP, you choose how and where you want to serve. You choose the amount of time you want to give. And you choose whether you want to draw on your skills or develop new ones. In short, you find the opportunity that is right for you.
The U.S. Congress created the RSVP Program in 1969.
Federal funding for RSVP is provided by the amount set by Congress each year. In order to receive federal funding, sponsors are required to show local support in the form of matching funds. The federal agency which funds and regulates RSVP is the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
CNCS’s major service programs are AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA, and Senior Corps. The Senior Corps division consists of the RSVP Program, Senior Companion Program, and the Foster Grandparent Program.
This RSVP Program is sponsored by the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging which provides the required matching funds.
