If we don't laugh we'll cry...
We are so sad to report that last weekend vandals broke into the Kindness Kitchen shelter, ripped out the refrigerator, and damaged the shelves. While we are heartsick that a few bad apples are trying to spoil the bunch, we are FIRMLY committed to the our mission of getting food to hungry neighbors in Walnut Hill. Here's how you can help:
- REPORT: Know something about the theft? OPD have been notified and are looking for help from the community to track down the fridge. Send us a DM if you have a tip.
- MEET UP: Friday, February 27, 11:00 am. Coffee and community conversation at Walnut Hill Commons (40th and Hamilton) to reimagine a way forward together. If you've utilized the fridge's services, donated, or otherwise supported the fridge, you're a stakeholder! Join the conversation on how we can repair and reopen Kindness Kitchen Community Fridge together.

NOTICE: Recent incidents of vandalism in the fridge shelter have required extensive cleaning. Unfortunately if it continues we will be forced to consider temporarily closing the fridge for the safety of the community. We may also need to consider installing security cameras.

We love the group of neighbors who work together on this initiative, and would be so disappointed if we are forced to close. However, for the safety and respect of the neighbors we cannot tolerate vandalism. Help us keep the fridge clean and accessible to all!

If anyone has information to share or knows of individuals who may be in need of hygiene support, please message us on Facebook Messenger.

Let's stay kind ❤️

OPE! We know you want to help, but if it's opened, expired, moldy, or freezer-burned, please dispose of your items elsewhere. PLEASE NO half-used packages or year-old canned goods. This week we were bummed to find a number of donations that were unusable. It's discouraging to hungry neighbors to reach for donated items only to find they're not food safe.

Remember: only put in what you would want to take out. We are committed to the dignity and health of all neighbors.

GUIDELINES FOR DONATION:
Fresh produce - please no wet/moldy fruit/veg
Sack lunches and unopened prepackaged meals
Ready-to-eat foods that don't require cooking
Bottled water, juice, and drinks (no alcohol)
Pantry items
Cooked foods must be labeled with ingredients and donation date. Individual or family-sized portions gratefully accepted.

HEY NEIGHBORS! We've moved! Just to the other side of the building. ;)
Big thanks to Dennis Ostdiek and the DPO Construction crew who made the move happen. The new location will give better visibility and easier drop-off access from 40th street.
