Every child deserves the chance to thrive, but outcomes for kids and families still vary widely across the country. The 2026 KIDS COUNT® Data Book from Annie E. Casey Foundation highlights where states are making progress for children and where challenges remain across economic well-being, education, health, and family/community factors.

This year’s enhanced KIDS COUNT index adds scores alongside rankings to better show how child well-being has changed over time since 2019. While many states have made gains in areas like family economic stability and community well-being, education setbacks continue to affect children nationwide. Every child deserves spaces that affirm them for who they are whether they are at home, in school, or out in their community.

At Voices for Children in Nebraska, Pride Month is a reminder that creating these conditions takes intention—and action—from all of us.

We believe every young person deserves to grow up in a community that fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, making space for youth to be exactly who they are.

Happy Pride Month!
