Notre Dame Housing began as the result of planning by the Notre Dame Sisters when they came to realize that fewer persons were entering religious life and the North American Motherhouse they called home would become an immense financial liability unless something was done. The Motherhouse was contiguous with Notre Dame Academy, an all-girls school from 1929 until it closed in 1974 when this all-gi

rls school joined with an all-boys school to form the new and still-operating Roncalli Catholic High School, leaving the Academy empty. For a period of time, the Sisters used the school's facilities to support retreats and group conference needs. Then, after careful consideration and significant planning, the Sisters tore down the 1964 wing of the academy and built new HUD Section 202 housing in 1996 and 1997.

Over the course of 11 years (and two projects rolled into one), the Sisters completed the transformation of the Motherhouse into 62 units of affordable housing with a Section 42 tax credit and Historic tax credit project for its renewal. Notre Dame Housing is much more than affordable housing for older adults; rather, it builds community within the boundaries of the campus and interacts in the neighborhood to build community through the provision of services on site for residents, by residents going into and contributing to the larger community, and by taking care of one to the other among residents and neighbors.

National Food Bank Day

Did you know Nebraska's food insecurity rate is 12.2%, surpassing the national average of 11.2%? Even more concerning, 1 in 5 children in our state are facing hunger.

At Notre Dame Housing, we are committed to addressing this pressing issue through our Life Enrichment Center Food Pantry. Open five times each month, every Friday from 1–3 PM and every third Wednesday from 10 AM–2 PM, we provide essential food resources to individuals and families in need, no questions asked. We are so grateful to our partners, Food Bank for the Heartland and Saving Grace.

🎉🎂 Birthday Celebration & Merrymaker Concert with Tim Javorsky 🎶🎉

What a wonderful afternoon of celebration, music, and fellowship at Notre Dame Housing! Residents gathered to celebrate monthly birthdays while enjoying an uplifting Merrymaker Concert by Tim Javorsky.

The room was filled with smiles, laughter, and familiar tunes that had residents singing along, clapping to the rhythm, and sharing joyful memories with friends and neighbors. Tim's engaging performance created a lively atmosphere that brought everyone together and made the celebration extra special.

Our residents continue to enjoy staying active and engaged through Tai Chi classes with Darryel! Each session offers an opportunity to improve balance, flexibility, and overall well-being while spending time with friends and having fun.

We're grateful for Darryel's dedication and encouragement, which help make every class a positive and energizing experience. It's inspiring to see so many residents committed to maintaining healthy, active lifestyles.

Notre Dame Housing is proud to offer residents access to beautiful grounds and welcoming outdoor spaces, including areas to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, visit with neighbors, and take in the changing seasons. Residents can enjoy spending time outdoors by gardening, going for walks, or simply relaxing in the fresh air. Right out front, residents have even enjoyed picnics under the big, shady tree, making it a favorite spot for gathering, relaxing, and spending time together. Whether it is a quiet moment outdoors or a chance to connect with others, these spaces add something special to daily life at Notre Dame Housing.

Residents recently enjoyed a fascinating presentation by Laureen Riedesel titled Clues to Clara: The Rediscovery of Local Women’s History.

Through historical research, storytelling, and local connections, Laureen shared the remarkable journey of uncovering the story of Clara and the important role women have played in shaping our community's history. Residents were captivated by the clues, discoveries, and insights that brought the past to life and highlighted contributions that may have otherwise been forgotten.

Residents enjoyed an intriguing presentation by Tisha from Fontenelle Forest as part of the TSUN Program Series, featuring Strangest Sightings of Fontenelle Forest.

From unusual wildlife encounters to some of the forest's most surprising and memorable discoveries, Tisha shared fascinating stories that captured everyone's attention.
