"The Omaha Planning Department is in the middle of a planning process for our Housing Affordability Action Plan (HAAP). Part of our effort is gathering input from as many people as possible through a survey we created. We would love for you to take about 10 mins to answer the survey and to share it with other people so we can get as many responses as possible!" -- Christina Rommelfanger

Hello Ecosystem! An opportunity for dialoguing, tending to Ecosystem roots and planning a potential project is emerging.

The seeds were sown by last summer’s powerful documentary The Wisdom of Trauma, which featured the work of Dr. Gabor Maté. In the film, directors and producers Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo make the connection between healing personal trauma and healing the collective.

Growing out of the intention to “shift local culture to one that orients toward vitality and well-being for all,” discussion of the root causes of the societal issues important to us could nourish the Ecosystem in these beginning stages.

The Wisdom of Trauma will once again be available for private online viewing October 4 - 10, and the Ecosystem will host a post-viewing Zoom conversation on Tuesday, October 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. During this time we will discuss how the film touched us personally, how the topics presented in the film may inform our personal and collective Ecosystem work and discuss the possibility of bringing the film to a larger audience here in Omaha. Register to view the film here: https://thewisdomoftrauma.com and register for the discussion here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOwpK62ibYRTqQ9sINjJlOppTWBZwCJkvrrI-CzBuEnyIgug/viewform

A second draft of the Nebraska Health Education Standards was released last week. This draft significantly weakens the inclusion of medically-accurate and age-appropriate essential elements—STD and pregnancy prevention, s*xual orientation, gender identity, consent and diverse family structures—resulting in a complete departure from what medical experts and decades of research clearly demonstrate is effective health education.

CALL TO ACTION: Just as a vibrant ecosystem requires diverse organisms in order to thrive, there are many ways to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA2S+ community members and show support for inclusive s*x education. What feels right to you?

- sign the Women’s Fund Petition calling for a 3rd draft

-write your Nebraska State Board of Education representative

-attend the Youth Rally at Stinson Park on Aug 5 from 5-6:00 in support of inclusive s*x education

-speak at the Nebraska State Board of Education public hearing at Aug 6 at 9:00 am

-share these opportunities on your social media channels, email or text

-watch the live meetings on Aug 5 - 6 to educate yourself

-check in on and support in your unique way those in the community that are doing the heavy lifting

-release any guilt over not having capacity to participate right now

-rest and recover
