Common milkweed (𝘈𝘴𝘀𝘭𝘦𝘱π˜ͺ𝘒𝘴 𝘴𝘺𝘳π˜ͺ𝘒𝘀𝘒) is coming into bloom in the garden. It's a favorite of garden guests, as well as to the monarch butterflies and other pollinators that thrive because of it.

This native species is crucial to the life cycle of monarchs, serving as both a safe haven for monarch butterfly eggs and a food source. But, because it is a rich nectar source, it is also important to populations of bees, wasps, beetles, and other butterflies.

Stands of common milkweed can be found throughout the garden, including in the arrival garden, Song of the Lark Meadow, and the color burst. Look for their big pink blooms, and for signs of pollinators benefitting from their flowers and foliage!

We look forward to replenishing our garden beds with some pollinating plans. Join us in July.

One way to help pollinators in Nebraska is to grow native plants 🌷🌼🌹

It is critical to include plants that bloom at various times of the year (from April to October) to ensure that a variety of pollinators have access to pollen and nectar throughout the season. Remember, pollinators are more than just bees and butterflies. There are also hummingbirds, moths, beetles, and ants!
