Her killer has still not been brought to justice.

Eight years ago today, 20-year-old Jasmine Harris was murdered in the Old Market during Taste of Omaha. She had gone downtown for a funnel cake.

What began as a fight involving about 20 juveniles escalated, and Harris was caught in the crossfire. She later died from her injuries. Seven others were also shot and injured.

We can’t ignore past tragedies like this when looking at recent incidents in the same area.

In the past two weekends, Omaha police officers have responded to several large fights in and around the Old Market and Gene Leahy Mall. Thankfully, those incidents did not end with another tragedy.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Omaha Police Cold Case Unit at 402-444-5656 or remain anonymous through Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.
