In case you're new here: we keep laptops out of landfills, refurbish them, and give them free to people who need a computer.

Over 2,000 so far, since 2020. As of last December, we're an official 501(c)(3) — which means every dollar you give is tax-deductible.

If you've been wanting to support the work, here's how it breaks down:

🔌 $10 buys chargers
🎒 $18 buys a laptop bag
📦 $28 ships a laptop to someone in need

Scan the QR in the graphic, or grab the link in the first comment. Even better — make it a monthly gift. Recurring donations let us plan ahead and help more people.

Every share on this post, and tag of our page, helps us reach people who'd want to hear about this. Thank you for helping us reach more people!

We're headed to LinuxFest Northwest this weekend, and here's hoping we get some good donations to help fund new laptop bags, and chargers (often the laptops we get in don't have chargers with them)!

It's sure to be a nerdtastic good time no matter what. 🎉

Plenty of other good things cooking behind the scenes too!

🎉 We just applied for a $5,000 grant through Franz Bakery's 120th anniversary giveback — and we are SO excited about what we'd do with it!

The plan: hands-on workshops where community members (kids especially 👀) learn to repair donated laptops and give them a second life — rescued from e-waste and headed to neighbors who actually need them. And yes, we're absolutely planning to have Franz baked goods on the table, because good work deserves good food. 🍞💻

If we win, those workshops would help us add 150–200 more devices to the 2,000+ laptops we've already distributed free to job seekers, students, and families across South Puget Sound.

Want to help us win? Nominate us before April 30! Here's everything you'll need: https://franzbakery.com/HTML/franz_gives

We'll be distributing another round of computers this week! ❤️ This time thru the Souper Sunday - free soup for everyone community.

Big thanks to everyone who has made this possible - from individual laptop donors to A+ Computers Olympia and 4th Dimension Computers & Technology.

It's amazing to give these computers second lives with people who really need them!

👋 Hi! I'm Erin Kelly (she/her), co-founder of the Computer Upcycle Project — and I'll be the one behind this page. 😄

That's me and Mike (he/him) — he keeps the computers running, I keep everything else running. 💻

The story starts with Mike. While most people came out of the pandemic with a sourdough starter (we have that too, for the record 🍞), Mike came out of it with a mission: rescuing donated laptops, fixing them up, and getting them into the hands of people who actually needed them.

He was happy just doing that.

And honestly? He was great at it.

But seeing how many people's lives he'd already changed — their words, not ours — I knew this deserved to be so much bigger.

Funding.

Outreach.

Real community impact and collaborations.

An official nonprofit.

So I jumped in, made that happen, and here we are. 🙌

Together we've now redistributed 2,000+ devices — free of charge — to people who need them.

Mike and our kids do the hands-on refurbishing; I work the big-picture angles — the nonprofit paperwork, newsletters, PR, partnerships, and now this page.

As a q***r woman, this work just makes sense to me — everyone deserves a working computer, full stop.

We're also building out hands-on workshops where people can learn real skills — think replacing hard drives, basic repairs, and tech programs geared toward homeschool families and youth.

We're just getting started on Facebook with this page, so hit that like button and come along for the ride. We've got workshops and giveaways planned, and a lot of good stories to share. 💚
