Please, be smart and don’t drink and drive. There are many options other than choosing to get behind the wheel. Call a friend, family, Uber, Lyft, a cab. Anything but thinking you are ok to drive. We see these tragedies over and over and yet some simple steps can prevent them from ever happening. If you decide to go have a drink and have a good time, okay but with that comes the responsibility to plan and make good choices.

Chief Morris has been a great leader and role model not only for the City of Olympia, but here in the greater Thurston County fire service. Our members thank him for his contributions and service and wish him only the very best in his retirement as he leaves a great legacy. We also congratulate and wish interim Fire Chief Flowers the very best as she takes the helm at the Olympia Fire Department . Olympia Fire Fighters

We echo this message from the sheriffs office. Ed Trevorrow has always provided a calm voice on the other end of the radio who took care of our needs and was always a step ahead. If something bad was happening, Ed was one of those you wanted as your dispatcher. Many of our firefighters may never have known who Ed was, but they knew his voice on the radio. We are grateful for his years of service and wish him the very best in retirement. KQT456 Ed Trevorrow

After 31.5 years of dedicated service, Ed Trevorrow recently worked his final full-time shift as a dispatcher with Thurston 911. Today, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office pauses to recognize and thank a man who has quietly—but profoundly—shaped public safety in our community for more than three decades.

For generations of deputies, Ed was the calm, steady voice behind the radio—the one who brought clarity and professionalism to moments of chaos. With an unmatched knowledge of every square inch of Thurston County, Ed helped guide law enforcement safely and confidently to those who needed help most. His voice carried reassurance, experience, and trust when it mattered most.

Beyond the radio, Ed was a wealth of knowledge, a source of humor during long and difficult shifts, and an outstanding friend to so many. He mentored, supported, and uplifted those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Ed’s impact cannot be measured in years alone, but in the countless calls answered, lives touched, and careers shaped along the way. While his radio may be quiet now, his legacy will continue to echo through the halls of public safety in Thurston County.

Thank you, Ed, for your service, your dedication, and your friendship. We wish you nothing but the very best in this next chapter—you’ve more than earned it.

OPERATION “DRUNK AROUND AND FIND OUT”

In addition to our normal patrol staffing, five patrol deputies (one being a DRE), one K9, two corrections deputies, and I will be out working a DUI emphasis tonight in an effort to curb impaired driving.

While the patrol deputies seek out drivers who are impaired behind the wheel, our corrections deputies will be assisting in marked cars by providing transports to the jail and hospital (for all of our “I swallowed fentanyl” and “I’m too drunk/high to be booked into jail” medical clearances). A number of patrol deputies working tonight are also equipped with Grapplers for those who believe they’re too good to be held accountable.

DUI’s, injury collisions, and fatal collisions have been plaguing our county and state lately. Last year, 65% of the fatal collisions in Thurston County involved an impaired driver.

As we prepare to celebrate the start of a new year, don’t be the reason someone doesn’t make it to 2026. Whether it is alcohol or drugs, if you choose to drive impaired tonight you’re going to end up in Thurston County Jail. Additionally, you’ll end up in one of my Facebook posts referred to as “loser”.

You read that correctly: if you drive impaired and place your fellow community members at risk, you’re a loser. Don’t be a loser.

To our sober drivers: tonight is a recipe for disaster. Not only are we seeing an uptick of DUI’s leading up to tonight, but it is likely to be extremely foggy. Stay home if you can, stay vigilant if you can’t. Clear intersections before you drive through them, be ready to react quickly if a car approaches you head on in your lane, and if you believe you are observing an impaired driver, call 911 without delay.

For those of you who are responsible and considerate of others:

Be safe, have fun, and…

HAPPY NEW YEAR, LOVE YOU ALL 🎉

Your firefighters wish you a Happy New Year! Please be safe out there tonight and make good decisions if you’re going out to celebrate. Please make a plan; have a designated driver or get a ride share. It’s super foggy and cold outside so please be safe.
