The Nicholas Maurice Woods & Juneteenth Foundation

The Nicholas Maurice Woods & Juneteenth Foundation In Memory & Celebration of Nick Woods and Juneteenth - We celebrate, honor and embody the principles In Memory & Celebration of Nick Woods and Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a national holiday and celebration in the United States of America, commemorating the ACTUAL day that freedom was achieved for enslaved Black people in The United States. On June 19, 1865 (two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which was announced as the liberation of Black people), General Gordon Granger and his troops marched into Galveston, Texas and offici

ally proclaimed ALL Black people free under the authority of The United States of America. According to historical accounts, a jubilee (party) broke out in the town of Galveston and the people were liberated from physical bo***ge. We celebrate Juneteenth in honor of our ancestors and the principles of freedom, honor, justice and progress - and these principles are aligned with the spirit of our beloved Homeboy, Son, Brother and BALLER, Mr. Nicholas Maurice Woods - who The Creator saw fit to bring him to the Heavens at a very early age in 1995 - he was a high school sophomore at River Ridge High School. Nick embodied the spirit of teamwork, love and had a tremendously positive attitude tripled with humility and rare athleticism. Most importantly - he was a friend whom we celebrate. We look forward to hosting future Juneteenth/Nick Woods Memorial Celebrations/BBQs/Tournaments - to heighten awareness and raise funds for a scholarship in the name and spirit of Nick Woods, our ancestors & Juneteenth. The Nick Woods & Juneteenth Foundation represents the original principles of Hip-Hop Culture, being: Peace, Love, Unity & Having Fun - and Knowledge. We remember our ancestors and Nick Woods - on this day and Er'day!

6th Annual Nick Woods/Juneteenth Hoops Classic

WHEN:
1. Nick Woods Commemorative Ceremony will take place at 7:00pm on Friday, June 17,2016 at RRHS. The NMW Juneteenth Foundation will give awards to our community hero recipients. One of the honorees will be Phil Lonborg for his exemplary service in the North Thurston School District.

To reiterate - the tournament will be held at the Chehalis Tribal Community Center NOT at Wonderwood. We are using the alternate location this year due to a scheduling conflict with RRHS.

Initially, we thought the tourney would need to be held at Wonderwood but we recently secured the CTCC facility. So, everybody with bad knees can relax...the tournament will be in doors and will have all of the same amenities as RRHS. :)

That said, I am pleased to announce that we have already secured RRHS for the tournament in 2017. It is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2017.

WHY:
To celebrate the spirit of Nick Woods and bring the community together via basketball in the spirit of love, sportsmanship, and goodwill.

HOW:

Late team entries will not be accepted. He will be flexible with his availability.
