Washington state is revising their energy codes, and we’ve been advocating for modern, efficient, and clean buildings.
Many older homes and buildings are still powered by “natural” methane gas - which releases toxic particulates like nitrogen oxides when burned. This dirties the air we breathe inside, hurting our hearts and lungs 🫁 and pollutes the air outside, harming our planet. 🌏

What does it mean for a building to be clean? ⚡
It means installing more efficient electric technologies like heat pumps, induction stoves and dryers. It also means making sure new homes and buildings constructed are “electric-ready”, even if they do still use gas, making it easier and cheaper to make a clean switch down the road.

Washington state is on track to have some of the strongest building codes in the nation – thanks to the 2,128 of YOU who signed on to our petition this summer.
The State Building Code Council is considering their amendments, and we’re following the process closely and will keep you updated.

Need volunteers to help with our booth at Heritage Park in Olympia on Friday, August 14th. We need help with set up, take down and manning the booth during the day. Set up is around 10 am. Join us, Tuesday, July 28th for our next Climate Catalyst Talk. 6 pm at the Soul Cafe: 300 5th Ave. SW in Olympia. This month's talk is on Washington's Cap-and-Invest Auctions & Markets.

Recently, Washington State signed a historic agreement to connect Washington State’s carbon market with California and Quebec. This is a monumental moment for partnering across state and country borders to cut climate pollution.

But what is a carbon market? How does the auction work? How is the money used? And what will this historic agreement mean for climate action in Washington State?

TCAT is happy to host Derek Nixon, Ecology's Cap-and-Invest Section Manager. Derek leads the design, management, and delivery of the state’s multibillion-dollar carbon market under the Cap-and-Invest Program.

The Climate Catalyst Speaker Series meets the fourth Tuesday from January through October at the Soul Cafe. The event is free and open to the public. Snacks are provided. Please bring your own nonalcoholic beverage. Donations to TCAT are gratefully accepted.
