With two bills (SB 5190 and SB 5115) moving in the Washington State Legislature to create broad presumptions of occupational disease not just for COVID-19 but for all future infectious disease pandemics, this post from our friend Mark Walls at Safety National seems timely. A key point especially as our Legislature appears determined to shift costs not just for COVID-19 but for any future public health emergency:

"There is no way for employers to run loss control against a global pandemic. There is no way for underwriters to assess the risks of a worldwide pandemic accurately."

If workers’ comp becomes responsible for common conditions that affect millions every year, it is no longer meeting its designed purpose.

Big day for WSIA, we're in the midst of hosting our Fall Conference online. A little departure from our normal course of events, but taking advantage of the format to bring some great content to the workers' comp community and a special virtual exhibitor experience with Examworks. Along with Examworks' Kayla McCain, we have Lee Pyfrom from MacDonald Miller Facility Solutoins and Jenny Haykin from Puget Sound Energy presenting this moring.
