May Education Session: Affordable Healthy Homes Roundtable Discussion

Join the Conversation: Building Better, Together.
This month, we are shifting gears from the traditional lecture format to an immersive IdeaFest & Roundtable. Our focus is “Affordable Healthy Housing”—a critical intersection where cost-efficiency meets occupant well-being.

We are inviting architects, designers, contractors, developers, manufacturers, and engaged homeowners to bring their real-world experiences to the table. Whether you’ve cracked the code on cost-effective ventilation, found a surprising material that boosts indoor air quality without breaking the bank, or learned a hard lesson about balancing budget constraints with health standards, your story matters.

What to Expect:
- Open Dialogue: No long presentations. Instead, we’ll facilitate structured discussions where everyone contributes.
- Success Stories & Lessons Learned: Share what’s working in the field and what hasn’t. What are the hidden costs of “cheap” builds? What are the ROI wins for healthy materials?
- Collaborative Problem Solving: Bring your current challenges. Let the room help brainstorm solutions for affordability barriers in healthy building.
- Networking: Connect with peers who are tackling the same hurdles in the Pacific Northwest.

Who Should Attend?
This session is designed for industry professionals looking to refine their approach to affordable healthy building, as well as homeowners and enthusiasts eager to understand the practical realities of the trade.

Preparation:
Come ready to talk! We encourage you to think of one specific project, challenge, or insight regarding affordable healthy housing that you’d like to share.

Let’s move beyond theory and build a shared toolkit for the future of housing in our region.

Join the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild Board of Directors!
Help Shape the Future of Sustainable Building in the Pacific Northwest
The Northwest EcoBuilding Guild is seeking passionate new Board members. If you’re committed to advancing sustainable, healthy, and resilient building practices, we invite you to help guide our mission and expand our impact across the region. Whether your strengths are strategic thinking, community building, education, advocacy, or simply a deep passion for sustainable design, we welcome your unique perspective.

Your Contribution
As a Board member, you’ll help ensure the Guild stays true to its mission: to support—through education—the progressive work of our members in the Pacific Northwest, strengthening the relationship between our communities and the built environment. Board members maintain an active Guild membership and help grow our community by introducing potential partners, sponsors, and new members.

What the Role Looks Like
This is a three-year term beginning in January 2026. Most members of the Board on average spend 2–4 hours per month, while Executive Committee members may contribute up to 15 hours per month (assigned after individual discussion and Board approval). Those averaged hours include virtual (or in-person with virtual option) Board of Directors meetings on the third Friday afternoon every other month (date and time can be altered with majority Board approval). They also include another task such as overseeing a special project or being an active liaison of an ongoing committee to the Board as well as making strategic introductions to grow our membership, donors/sponsors, and programs

Ready to make a meaningful impact?
Join us in shaping a more sustainable future for the Pacific Northwest. Let’s build it together—one informed, inspired community at a time.

Direct interest and inquiries to Board Secretary, Howard Thurston, [email protected], 5034592552.

Eugene Chapter Monthly Get Together
Special Guest Madeline Cowen joins us at Gratitude Brewing on Wednesday, May 5, 2026.

This year has seen major attacks on public forests, including weakened environmental protections, increased logging mandates, and reduced public oversight. The timber industry claims expanded logging will address housing, wildfire risk, and local economies. Madeline Cowen of Cascadia Wildlands will highlight how grassroots efforts (through legal action, field observation, and advocacy) continue to be essential to challenge destructive logging practices and policies.

RESOURCES: Cascadia Wildlands. We like it wild.

WHERE: Gratitude Brewing – 540 E 8th Ave, Eugene OR 97401
